Oregon Dr

"Small, safe, and friendly suburb"

Friendly community vibe
Close to Tunstall Square shopping centre, with buses to Doncaster/City/Chelsea right outside
Some good primary schools around, very kid-friendly

Would rate higher if it had trams or trains nearby

Robert Street

"Very safe and quiet pocket of Bulleen"

Pretty safe, houses mostly on large blocks with big backyards, not much around; go to Doncaster, or further North for shopping centres/bars/restaurants.
Public transport into cbd consists of making your way to a bus stop to get to Heidelberg station. Bus stop is a 5 minute walk away on Manningham road. Multiple petrol stations. 15-20 minute walk to the small shopping plaza (Bulleen Plaza).

Walking distance to Banksia and Birrarrung Parks and Heidi Museum.

Manningham road can get very hectic and quite a bit of hoon driving throughout weekend nights.

5 minute drive to eastern freeway entrance on Bulleen Road.

Wellington Road

"Close to hospital and quiet, but not for long"

Lived here 14 months until Jan 2020. Before they've even built the three new Trio towers, half their view is set to be lost due to knocking down the BP petrol station for an even taller tower.
Whitehorse road side is slowly becoming an extreme wind tunnel.

Very close to box hill hospital and the after hours medical clinic. 2 tram stops for 109 tram, 5-10 minutes walk away (depending on your speed) in either direction on corner of Whitehorse road. Bus stop outside BP where buses often sail past waiting commuters (soon to be removed due to development). Beware the 109 tram on weekday mornings takes about 1.5 hours to get into the CBD, weekends it's more like 40 minutes.
Due to increasing wind tunnel and lack of cover from sun/rain/wind, the walk from Wellington Road to Box Hill Shopping Centre, train station, and bus depot is doable (15 - 20 minutes, if you're forced to wait at the lights, which give preference to cars) but a pain in the butt if the weather is sunny, raining, or windy (windy 95% of the time). Another apartment block is set to be built over the next two years, mid-way down the street and they will be building the train station connection from new Bundoora-Doncaster line over the next four years - they've started digging for just outside no. 1 Wellington Road apartments

It's handy that cars are blocked off from entering via Whitehorse road. If you work in the hospital, or in a suburb close by tram, such as Balwyn, Deepdeene, or Kew, would be a great location. Doable but a bit awkward and difficult if you work in the CBD.

On safety: Some homeless people live in the alleyway off this street, often displaying threatening behaviour (don't go through the alleyway at night, I did a few times and stopped after a homeless man challenged me to a fight). There is also a treatment centre of some kind for drug addiction at the hospital end of the street.

Park is quite safe even late at night lots of runners, male & female, and families are there.

Lots of great restaurants to try, especially on station street at the top end of Whitehorse rd. Shopping centre is filled with everything you need; chemists, coles & woolworths, takeaway & dine-in restaurants, clothing, and specialty stores.

Claremont Street

"Becoming a modern slum"

Over the past 5-10 years the street has become a modern slum. Multiple apartment buildings filled with compact housing boxes have been built/rebuilt and crammed in next to each other.
Rents continue to rise and owners lose hundreds of thousands off property values as views and sunlight are lost to new developments. Every apartment is a fishbowl with the only views left being into other apartments. Lots of natural light has also disappeared - new buildings are all built less than a metre from established apartment blocks. The street is also increasingly becoming a wind-tunnel. There are hardly any trees and with two new buildings about to start construction (one at no.42 still not finished) the noise is constant (radios blaring music, drilling, cranes, etc).

A once quiet, pretty street is no more. Claremont street is close to South Yarra station, Chapel St, and Chapel St Woolworths and those are the only things it has going for it now.

Nickson Street

"Fantastic for shops, parks and comfort"

Lived here just over a year. Maximum 18 mins walk to Bundoora Square’s coles/dentist/chemist/cafes/market/ trams /anything from the end of the street. Flat too so no hills to have to conquer.
Beautiful views of sunsets and sky thanks to almost no apartment buildings towering over. Rarely hear the traffic from Settlement Road. Generally quiet street, wide houses with backyards. Only crime I’ve seen is illegal fireworks.

Absolutely hell to get into the city via car/tram/bus and train. Don’t live here if you work in the city and value an easy commute (this was my mistake).

"Don’t need the city? This is your place"

Lived in Nickson street for just over a year. Absolutely hell to get into the city via car/tram/bus and train. Other than that it’s a nice area, not too hilly and lots of amenities easy to get to from all ends. If you work or study in mill park on one end to Preston/Northcote at the other, it’s a great location and you won’t need a car.

Plenty Road is almost always packed. Why they’re building apartments on it I have no idea.

This is true, however Nickson Street isnt really Bundoora although technically it is, it has appartments, townhouses units etc which is full of students whether the main housing areas of Bundoora would be in the College View estate and Botanica Park, hope this helped :)

"If you don’t go near the main road it’s the best street you’ll ever live on"

Lived here 5 years. Beautiful houses and gardens. Like a little community, everyone does lights at Christmas and trick or treat at Halloween, parents very involved. Not snobby, just nice families in the street. Very helpful and understanding.

Rosanna road however is a noise and has pollutant death trap. Move to this street if you won’t use the road too much.

Rosanna

"Lovely, as long as you avoid Rosanna Road"

Lived here for 5 years. Beautiful houses, gardens, friendly people, nice parks surrounding, and trains take 22 - 25 mins to the cbd). Also on Hurstbridge train line, which is filled with calm professionals and sane people at all hours (the opposite of the Mernda line).

A bit hilly if you’re walking. Nice cafe’s in little pockets of shops all around.
Rosanna road is a death trap and if you’re going to take the train to work, you should live on the same side, crossing the road everyday was terrifying- don’t stand too close to the crossing, learnt that by watching a truck take on the lights and pole right above me - common occurrence here. Trucks drivers don’t stop when they hit objects. Ever. Even if they’ve taken down the power lines and are dragging them down the street.
Apart from that there’s just one guy who walks his 7 dogs at once in the Rosanna cricket club ovals - avoid him.

Hi Cassie, thank you for the helpful review. We're about to move into Banyule road. Do you know if that is a busy road?
