Whats the best thing to do in Sleepy Hollow?

Take a ride through The Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. It is beautiful naturally plus has the most wondergul Mausoleum architecture. Think I am being gruesome? It IS Halloween! There you can find the tombs of Elizabeth Arden, Mark Hellinger as in The Mark Hellinger Theater in NYC, Washington Irving, Andrew Carnegie, Walter Chrysler, Brooke & Vincent Astor,Samuel Gompers - founder of the American Federation of Labor, and William Rockefeller whose family estate of Pocantico Hills abuts the cemetery. Once while visitng the gravesites of my family, I saw a new huge Mausoleum being built a short distance away.
I saw stained glass windows with scenes of New York Landmark buildings. As we circled to the front we saw the name Harry Helmsley being etched into the granite above the entry.

Visit the legendary local author Washington Irving's famous burial place and old Dutch Church. You might find yourself taking a tour the ancient and beautiful 76-acre cemetary. Also, Philipsburg Manor House, a 17th-Century, 300-year-old working farmhouse, which brings the century back to life! You can learn about slavery during the colonial age as well as learn century-old activities such as sheep-shearing; you can even visit a working gristmill. Also, make sure to visit the expansive nature reserve of Rockefeller Center! Can't be beat, especially for families.
TIPS:
#1: Tombstone rubbing (taking a piece of paper and pencil, placing pencil over a grave, and rubbing the pencil onto the paper) makes the name and dates show up on the paper! That's a great way to teach your kids some history and appreciate where this country (and area) has come from. Enjoy!
#2: Phillipsburg Manor House is only open during the months of April into October. Hours are 10-5pm (if you want a tour, go before 4pm). It's a beautiful sport and there's a nice path to walk from the Manor as well.

Just a short drive down the road from Sleepy Hollow is the incomparable 843-seat historic Tarrytown Music Hall which offers some of the finest entertainment in Westchester County for remarkably reasonable ticket prices. Amazing foot-stomping Broadway shows, family-friendly chidren's theatre, outstanding classical films and a concert series featuring world-renowned acts including Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne, Ani Difranco, Lea Salonga and Louie Anderson are but a drop in the puddle of its year-round offerings. The Music Hall was voted the “Best Music Venue” and “Best Kids Theatre” by readers of Westchester Magazine. There are a ton of terrific eateries flanking the Music Hall that range from a store front Chinese restaurant to a lively Mexican joint to an old-fashioned style ice cream parlor to the slightly more refined and romantic, Chiboust, which is part bistro, part bakery and part wine bar.

Sleepy Hollow is amazing in the fall, with a full menu of Halloween tricks and treats. There is the Horseman's Hollow which celebrates the tale of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and old Ichabod Crane. Visitors walk through a haunted trail where creatures lurk in the shadows and special effects send shivers up your spine. Or, buckle up for the annual Sleepy Hollow Haunted Hayride that takes you from the liveliness of the streets through to the dark and desolate woods. You can almost hear the Headless Horseman galloping by. Not too far from Sleepy Hollow, just up the road in Croton-on-Hudson, is the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze that features over 4,000 (yes, over four thousand!) hand-carved, illuminated pumpkins. Visitors walk through Van Cortlandt Manor's grounds completely mesmerized, at least I was.
