Hi Diane. Birkdale is great for public transport and retirees. There is the rail which is basically opposite the shopping centre maybe a 5-10 min walk and goes to Cleveland or the city direction. The bus service is great and operates a very regular service. It would depend on what part of Birkdale you would be living in of course the suburb covers quite a large area but I think this is a lovely area for retirees.
Murarrie has the air conditioned Bus Interchange at Cannon Hill Kmart Plaza (Check out the newly renovated section including Woolworths and TK-Maxx upstairs) . Murarrie Train station is walking distance. Bulimba Ferry terminal still has heritage charm. Murarrie is rich in public transport options for those visiting the CBD, Brisbane River, or Moreton Bay.
