Bed bugs, bed bugs, and more bed bugs. Well it beats talking about roaches for a change. That topic got old in a hurry.
@Uraniumfish you know whats odd? I have heard of bed bug outbreaks in the US but none in Asia..you would think Asia would be a hot bed of bed bug infestations what with the tropical climate and the population masses. Even then I am traveling to Singapore tomorrow and will be checking my hotel mattress for sure. As for storing my luggage in the bathroom lets see how that pans out.
Maybe the reason bed bugs are not mentioned in Asia is because no one reports them. They just spray the bed and leave the next day.
@hhusted I don't know about that they would probably be reports about the bugs as many Asian hotels are very highly ranked and are known for their incredible service and amenities- check out Six Senses, Banyan Tree Resorts, Peninsula Hotels etc
@Uptowngirl: Maybe so. As you said, the climate is tropical, so why wouldn't there be bed bugs, among many other insects.
@hhusted hmm they must be there just havent heard the hullabaloo here..
@Uptowngirl: I agree. Wherever moist air is found, this usually is a place for bugs of all types.
Lots of bugs are regional. Who knows - maybe that explains why there are none in Asia.
@Uraniumfish: For some reason, I can't associate Asian without bugs. I know I've seen the two-legged kind. But I think there are also the insect type.
@hhusted I didn't mean to suggest that Asia has no bugs of its own! They just may not be the same kinds of bugs as in N. America, is all.
@uptowngirl I believe bedbugs are capable of inhabiting all continents - it's just the US that has seen an incredible resurgence of the things in the past decade.
@NeverSleeps I actually checked with some people in India and they have heard of bed bug infestation in the region but because they are used to dealing with various creepy crawlies they treat the elimination of bed bugs routine.
@uptowngirl Right - I just read an NY Times op-ed from last summer that talked about how bedbugs used to be a problem routinely dealt with, but are now a reason to withhold your rent.
Wait, meaning that if your building has it, you don't pay rent, neversleeps?
@Uraniumjfish: It doesn't matter what bugs are there, they are still bugs. I hate bugs. Yikes.
Eh, I think it does matter what kind of bugs. There's a huge difference between having ants and having bed bugs. Ants are a huge problem in So Cal houses; but, I'll take those any day over the bed bugs, thank you very much.
@JenMac Red ants are as deadly as those damn bed bugs.. they bite. I am hoping that my apartment doesnt have roaches and such when I arrive in NYC next month for the super recently informed us that the cleaning lady that we had fixed up to clean the apartment once a month had just not bothered to show up, You would think in these recessionary times people would be happy for steady side income. Wonders never cease I guess.
@Uptowngirl: I don't think I have seen red ants. Are red ants the same as fire ants? By the way, I haven't seen a red ant, but I have seen a red uncle. :) :) ha ha.
@hhusted I think they are tropical critters
Wait, you can withhold rent if your building has bedbugs?
You can withhold your rent if your landlord is not doing what he's supposed to be doing, and taking care of bedbugs falls under that category.
@NeverSleeps: I'll keep your thoughts in mind, if we develop bed bugs and the super does nothing about it. But truthfully, what can the landlord do? Come in and spray the bed?
@NeverSleeps Wow! Didn't know that.
@Uraniumfish Yeah, but it doesn't seem like it should be necessary. I mean, I certainly hope that my landlord would take care of that issue right away!
