Stardust is a bit (read: very!) touristy, in my opinion -it's the one with the singing waiters, right? For food, ambiance, and early opening hours I can recommend the Tick Tock Cafe on 34th and 8th - I was caught at 6 am waiting for a Bolt Bus there and stopped in for a lovely breakfast. Food was delicious, service was great, view was lovely (wide open windows onto midtown - pleasant probably only when the sun is just rising). But it wasn't cheap - one bacon/eggs and one orange juice for my boyfriend, and a coffee and bagel for me, came to $20 with tip!

I never ate in the Tick Tock Cafe so I can't comment on it. But I did eat at the Stardust Diner and thought the food was great.

Here's me shaking my head at the concept of singing waiters. And people actually want this and pay money for it?

If the waiters sing well, who cares. I like being entetained. It breaks up the monotony of having to order the food and then waiting there to get served.

I know, I know.. I'm a bit of the skeptical NY-er too.. but I've been there a few times only to BLOWN away by some of the voices that come out of those guys and gals.. I can't help but feel like there's a star in the making at the Star Dust.. Plus I love their milk shakes!! :-)
