Rainbow Room is closing

Times really are tough. This place is a legend.

Well it is not totally closing - but you won't see the grill, and it will be open for special occasions and as a bar.

Anyone ever been there? I never have, but I recall a friend who won a sweepstakes trip to NYC got to have dinner there.

This upset me so much! I was going to take my boyfriend there on his first visit to NYC, and was really disappointed when I found out it had shut down. How can you close down the Rainbow Room? It's an absolute legend/classic!

The Rainbow Room has been closed for quite some time...since August. Cipriani no longer runs the place and the evil Tishman Speyer has yet to announce a new operator, but it is likely to be back someday. It's a unionized place so I think it's a pretty tough to find someone to do such dirty work, despite all of the apparent perks. The union is great for the employees, but not so much for the operator.

The restaurant's website asks that people please continue to check back on the progress of things.

Wow, that is bad when the city loses the Rainbow Room. I told several people that economically, NYC is not as great as it once was. I am hoping it will rebound some day, at least for the sake of the world economy.
