Trash pickup resumes today! Supposedly...

Is anyone else excited to get rid of some of the trash that's accumulated since the most recent snowfall? Looks like they're supposed to take it away for us starting today: http://www.amny.com/urbanite-1.812039/after-the-storm-trash-pickup-resumes-monday-1.2648948

I'm sure mine isn't the only neighborhood with piles of garbage sitting beneath a few feet of snow. Are we going to have to wait until it melts before they take it away?

I head on the news this morning that the sanitation department was busy with snow removal still. So I doubt if trash pickup will resume today. However, if it does, that will be a great thing.

It looks like the garbage that was set atop the snow drifts was indeed taken away, at least in my neck of the woods. But the piles of garbage UNDER the snow remain....

At this time, anything is better than nothing. There is supposed to be rain on Saturday, with the temps in the low '40s, so maybe some of that snow will met, exposing the trash so it can get picked up next week.

Ugh, I am so over this! Cars are all parked half way out into the street because even the snow hasn't been cleared.

JenMac: I saw snow piles so high it came up to my waist. And I'm 6 foot tall. That's what happens when a blizzard and northeaster come within days of each other.

The only reason they cleaned the garbage on Canal is because it was the Chinese New Year. Otherwise they would have left it there to rot, I'm sure, as though Chinatown isn't smelly enough.

@JenMac Alternate side parking is supposed to resume on the 7th, so hopefully once people move their stupid cars they'll be able to clear some of the stupid snow away!

@neversleeps: here's hoping!

@everyone: It finally happened. After weeks of near misses, I fell today. Slipped on ice and took a digger. I knew it was only a matter of time. It's just unfortunate that it had to happen when I was really trying to look cool.

It looks like the rain we just had melted a lot of the snow piles; hopefully people will be able to unearth the garbage that had been left behind.

@JenMac, Boy that can sink the day. I've had so many near-misses, knock on wood, when I was carrying heavy shopping bags too.

BTW There were major crowds in Chinatown today for the Chinese New Year - it was madness. Took 30 minutes to walk three blocks to the subway and then there were random people shooting off fireworks left and right around me. I like the rowdy festivities, but it was quite an ordeal just surviving a short outing from my apartment.

@JenMac That ALWAYS happens to me, even if I am wearing proper footwear and not actually walking over any black ice or anything slippery whatsoever - bam! I'd actually rather be with friends when it happens, because then you have people to laugh with. The concerned citizens who tend to surround me only make me feel worse...

@Uraniumfish Sounds like you had a rough day as well....

Well I hate to rain some more on everyone's rainy day, but I had an awesome time this lovely Sunday. Had no idea 45 degrees could feel so warm!
