Why does it always rain on Sunday?

Maybe the people with NASA friends can help with this one: why does it seem to rain every friggin Sunday?! My friends and I all work indoors all week and make a plan for a lovely outdoor Sunday Funday Brunch; and, every single week since spring has landed, it has been beautiful until Sunday! It's supposed to rain tomorrow. Come on!

The torrential downpours that have been occurring of late leave much to be desired for the outdoor pancake experience. Plus, the people watching is severely limited on crappy days. I sat outside at Joe yesterday for hours and met the craziest cats. They just come and sit next to you and talk until you say things like, "sir, you need to stop." That never happens with all those umbrellas milling about.

@Uptowngirl: It is just the weather patterns. A scientist friend of mind from NASA told me that the weather is controlled by wind currents. The wind currents are controlled by the magnetic field around the Earth. Recently, there have been a number of solar flares from the sun hitting the magnetic field and shifting it about 15 degrees. This throws the magnetic field off. When this happens, even the wind currents shift. The jet stream is the biggest wind shifter on the planet. It guides all weather from the west coast to the east coast. The jet stream has been shifting more to the north, causing wind currents to come down from the North Pole. This is why it is unusually wet and chilly this time of the year.

If you really want something to do on a rainy Sunday, why not clean out your closets, or simply do spring cleaning. That's what my girlfriend and I did last Sunday.

@NeverSleeps: What do you mean how do I live. No, I rarely go out of my apartment unless it is to shop for food. My girlfriend and I go out once a week to get groceries and I go to my screenwriting classes. Those are the only two occasions I go out.

RAIN ON SUNDAY ALERT!

Maaan.. I was planning on heading to my gorgeous community garden after the gym, but I walked outside and, well... you know.

@JenMac @Uraniumfish That stuff is golden. I've perfected the recipe. Most will tell you to use equal parts coco oil, baking soda and corn starch but my deodorant is slightly lighter on the coco oil - otherwise it's just too oily. During the winter I think the stuff would last for days if I didn't shower. Summer is different, obviously, and sometimes I sweat through it...say, after walking a few miles, but it's still better than store bought stuff. And it doesn't cause breast cancer, which is of course why I started making it in the first place. My friend who got me started on it has better results with it - I think because she sweats less than I do.

@NeverSleeps I am also curious to see it, how do you apply it? does the coconut oil solidify the mixture in the winter? Report

@uptowngirl In order to make it, you melt the coconut oil and then mix it in a bowl with the other two ingredients. It solidifies in room temperature, but last month I had to start keeping it in the fridge so it would stay solid. I pour the mixture into an old deodorant container before it solidifies, and I just apply it as if it were any other deodorant solid. I really recommend getting unrefined coconut oil because it has a higher melting temp. I didn't know you could use it as a conditioner! I think I am going to have to try that. I'm a big fan of almond oil for a moisturizer, though. Is coconut oil similar, as in it's unlike to clog your pores?

@NeverSleeps I havent really used it in years but my dad and mother in law swear by it .. in India they do massages with coconut oil and then have a bath for its said to moisturize the skin similarly they heat a bit of coconut oil and massage it into the hair before washing it. This practice is especially popular in the southern Indian state of Kerala where women usually have long , lustrous tresses so it definitely seems to work. Keralites are big consumers of coconut oil and tend to use it for cooking as well and surprisingly they have lower rates of heart disease than the rest of the population even though coconut oil is believed to be highly artery-clogging.

@Uraniumfish please go ahead and use coconut oil based shampoos and conditioners but go easy on the serums as they can be quite heavy for thin, straight hair which I too have ..also I think its relegated to the side aisles in mainstream drugstores because I think most Americans would be repulsed by the smell of coconut oil not so in countries like India and Sri Lanka where people many actually go out and about with oil in their hair which they use as an alternative for gel/ hair spray. If you ever do venture out to Queens or even to some of the big South Asian groceries in the East Village you will get to see a whole range of oils which are infused with natural herbs which are a big hit with South Asians.
