Pier 39 is the traditional place. They put on a good show on the Fourth and on New Years too. Its right near you too, if you live in North Beach. So you can walk there (which is probably the only good way of getting there--it will be packed).
I hear Santa Cruz has a really funky fireworks show if you want to take a day trip down the coast a little ways.
Happy Fourth Everyone! So, what is the best fireworks display you have ever been to? For me it was right next door to where I live in Moraga. Although, granted I'm not that into fireworks. But watching it with my kids really did it for me the last few years.

Happy Independence Day to All! For me, the best fireworks were at the pier in Huntington Beach a couple of years ago.
I attended a day of the Montreal Fireworks Competition a couple of years ago and that was pretty impressive, even though I'm not into fireworks.
Oh I'd love to see some fireworks in SF on the bay, I'm going to be there in a couple of days!
Unfortunately you just missed it AJ, but they were really great. I'm new to SF, but I tell, this city makes for a really great background for fireworks! Definitely as good a show as I've seen.
Sorry to say that this is a little dated, but I went to see some in Bodega Bay (approximately an hour north) this weekend. The show was a bit pitiful, but the views over the harbor were actually pretty great, and the Sonoma Coast is a fantastic place to spend a weekend away from the city. Next time?
