Parking can be difficult in North Beach, especially with many of the one way streets and alleys. For visiting - Most of the streets have meters and luckily North Beach is on the edge of Chinatown which has a few parking garages, only a short walk away. If you park on Broadway, be sure to read the signs, as I think there are certain restrictions even after 6 pm. For residents - depending on your work/school schedule, you may start to see a pattern of times when more parking spaces are available. Or hopefully where you live comes with a parking space in a garage or you can find leased parking nearby.

Parking in North Beach, San Francisco? Horrible. A real nightmare. Especially if you are there after 7 pm on a weekend during the summer--good luck. There are lots and you can occasionally find parking on the street. But even if you have a parking permit it is pain because the whole neighborhood just fills up on the weekends.

Even worse, if you live there, you end up parking far away from your apartment and then have to walk back to your place, both leaving your car unattended to be robbed and yourself open to muggings. If you can find a place with a garage, the extra cost is usually worth it in terms of lost time and replacement window panes.
