Oakland is not a very nice place to live, and as a single guy I would not want to live there. Not safe, and not fun.

Oakland is one of the many neighborhoods that is trying to come back from tough times. Unfortunately, it's not quite there yet. There are lots of things to do and a few safer areas, so it could be nice for singles as long as you do your research and end up in a safer part of the neighborhood.
