Port Fairy, VIC 3284

Port Fairy is a delightful spot, nestled on the coast of western Victoria about 300 km from Melbourne. It is a country town with a population of around 3,000, that swells with the influx of tourists in the summer months.

The town itself has all of the key facilities, plus a number of shops, pubs and restaurants. The larger town of Warnambool is only a 20 minute drive away.

It is a great spot for relaxed country living. Fishing and boating is popular with the locals, and many live on farms in the surrounding areas.

The true charm of Port Fairy lies in its location, with rugged coastlines and beautiful beaches. The only real downside is the weather - often cold and rainy, and the water can be freezing!

Port Fairy is located almost at the end of the famous Great Ocean Road of Victoria. It is approximately a four hours' drive from Melborune. The drive along the coastal route can get pretty "windy" but the view is absolutely breathtaking. As it is a relatively further town as compared to the likes of Apollo Bay and Lorne, it is much smaller and quieter.

When I visited Port Fairy a couple of years back, I noticed two pubs of very distinct flavours in the main part of town. The pub on one side of the main street has more of a local feel and is more like your typical country town pub without any fanfare. The pub on the other side of the main street is swankier looking and more for those with more money to throw around. Additionally, there are many boutiques and shops around the area that service tourists. Despite it being a small town, the locals were not very friendly like what you would expect from a small town. Instead, the tourists were friendlier than the locals.

It's rare for people who visit Port Fairy to be satisfied with just one visit. This stunning seaside village is home to beautiful beaches, cafes where you can linger over a coffee and a great shopping strip. In summer it's a hive of activity, with families and couples alike flocking to the town to take in the sea air. The Moyneyana Festival is a real treat for families with daily activities over summer and each year the town hosts the Port Fairy Folk Festival in March. This attracts artists from all over the world and is attended by more than 30,000 people.

This is a good sized small town with a great feel and wonderful places to walk. Beautiful location.

The shops are well stcoked and there are a good number of them. There are plenty of places to get something to eat and a few nice places to grab a drink.

Plenty of open spaces for people with an active lifestyle. Great place for a seachange.
