It's the only MAJOR bookstore in the area, but there are far fewer major bookstore chains these days now that Borders has closed. There are other options if you want to get a book in Poughkeepsie, such as Bookworm, where you can trade in used books for credit toward other purchases. I know a lot of people like Bookworm.

It's one of the only major bookstores anywhere in Putnam/Dutchess, I think. I live in Brewster and we make the drive to Poughkeepsie at least once a month to visit that Barnes and Noble. It's a great store. There is a BN in the Cortlandt Town Center, which also has a cafe and a nice kids' section, but even though it's closer the highway access to Poukeepsie makes it a little more easily accessible. Route 6 to Cortlandt from Brewster can be a pain. There is also a small BN in Danbury, CT, but it doesn't have a cafe.

Yes, currently Barnes & Nobles is the only major book store in the town of Poughkeepsie. It is located on Route 9 near Spackenkill Road. It has a café, a music store and two stories full with shelve after shelve of books that fit any reader's taste.
