Another place that hasn't yet been mentioned is Compassion Vet. There was one on Hooker Avenue but I wouldn't know if it's still there. Anyway, I don't know if they still do it but I adopted a cat there about 15 years ago. There may not be many pets there these days, if any, but who knows. Might be worth a look.

Another two plausible options are Petco's adoption days as well as the Poughkeepsie Animal Control.

The Dutchess County SPCA on Violet Avenue is the best place to adopt. Great staff and well cared for animals.
