How safe is Eastern Preston near Northland Shopping Centre
I'm relocating to Melbourne and have looked at a town house in Preston right behind Northland shopping centre. I've been given mixed reviews about this suburb and some say it's not safe close to Northland. The parklands attract a lot of crime and people under the influence. Is this true? The house I'm looking at doesn't have a lockup garage or alarm systems installed. Will this be a problem. Any information would be great to help be decide about the house. Thank you!

This isn't the most desirable area of the suburb and the socio-economic status is lower than other parts of Preston. However I have leased properties in this area and had tenants reside there for years at a time without complaint.
