"A busy street with lots to do - great for family"

Prospect Road is the main road that stretches through the entire suburb of Prospect. Prospect is a large suburb, and is situated to the immediate north of North Adelaide and the parklands.

There are quite a few houses along Prospect Road. The southern end has some very large and grand homes, followed by the 'main street' which has a number of shops, cafés and restaurants. As you head further north, the houses become smaller and perhaps slightly less well-maintained. Real estate values certainly decrease the further north you head.

All in all it is a great spot to be based, provided you choose your location wisely. It is a busy but narrow street, so beware that traffic can be slow during the peak hours.

There are lots of schools, recreational facilities and childcare in the area, so it is a great spot to raise a family.

"A Street of Contrasts"

Prospect Road, Prospect (as opposed to the section that is in Blair Athol and Killburn which is not reviewed here) is a road that changes its character depending upon which part of the road you are talking about. It is a main road in Adelaide with moderate traffic and only a few small parks to lighten the concrete and stobey poles of a fairly ugly streetscape. Much more pleasant surroundings can be found in the leafy tree lined streets that intersect Prospect road but the street itself is fairly ugly. Prospect Road is well served by the 182 bus service from the city of Adelaide.

The street itself has 3 main sections: the well to do section closest to the city; the shopping district in the middle and the less well off residential section between the shopping district and Regency Road.

The section closest to the city has a number of larger houses and the side streets running off Prospect Road reflect this. It is mostly free standing houses with a few businesses, most notably the Adelaide Fresh complex and the BP Service Station. Adelaide Fresh contains fruit & vegetables, a butcher, a chicken shop and a bakery.

The middle section consists a number of businesses as well as the Prospect Council Chambers. The shops are mostly small with one tired looking small shopping centre and a new shopping centre set to open around 2007. There are a number of cafes at the northern end of this section near the council chambers as well as some boutique fashion. Muratti cakes is a standout here.

North of the shops and towards Regency Road the character changes with a number of fairly ugly blocks of units with some struggling businesses. There is a large block of units for people with intellectual disabilities/mental health issues well served by a greasy take-away shop across the road.
