First home in reservoir

I bought my first property back in 2006 in Halsey St, still there 10 years later and have no intention of moving on. I love the pocket of Reservoir I'm in. My daughter is 4 years old now and I'm very fortunate to raise a family in such a great location. The neighbours are friendly and everything is close by.
Meetjoeblack, if you buy in the area you will not regret it.
Hi MeetJoeBlack
I agree wholeheartedly with the comments made by Gazza. I have lived in Reservoir for 8 years with a young family and we think the area is fantastic. We have also observed the increase in restaurants (thai, italian, fijian, indian and even an american diner) and there have been a series of cafes that have sprung up all over the suburb. The local amenities and services continue to be developed and improved. Edwardes Park Lake has continued to attract a diverse range of people- my only wish was that they didn't leave so much rubbish behind on weekends. My understanding is that the lake is the second largest in Melbourne- Albert Park Lake is obviously much larger.
The pocket of Reservoir you are looking at has a good reputation- I have a friend who has lived on Glasgow avenue for many years and has always enjoyed living there. There are parks and sporting clubs (i.e. soccer and football club), nearby. There is also a bus service that runs along Glasgow avenue that goes past the train station. My friend tells me that when they bought their house in 2005, they paid about $275,000 and its now valued at $680,000, despite not being renovated.
Good-luck with any purchase you make.
Have lived in Reservoir for five years and am a complete convert. The area you are looking at is rapidly up and coming. House prices at the southern end of Reservoir (Oakhill and around Edwards Park Lake) already rival Preston prices. In our five years in Reservoir we have seen dramatic changes, with cafes and restaurants springing up everywhere. Our daughter recently bought near Edwards Park Lake (not far from where you are looking) and loves it. There are still a few pockets in Reservoir I would avoid, but generally it is safe, friendly and a great place to bring up kids.

Hi SunilN. The pockets I referred to in my original reply are the areas of public housing, which unfortunately successive governments have neglected and allowed to become rundown. Although houses in those pockets can sometimes be bargains. Take a good drive around before you buy. Generally, however, Reservoir (and Edwards Park Lake) is a gem. And as for those power lines, people have been living under them for 40 years or so.
Hi Gazza, Thank you so much for your reply, its much appreciated. We drove around the area on the last couple of days and were quite impressed with the suburb itself. In general we have started liking Reservoir and definitely thinking of moving around the area. Thanks once again.
