Reviews of Scamander, TAS
"Friendly beach side town without the hustle and bustle"
Scamander is a town of around 600 permanent residents and is just 15 minutes south of St Helens, 15 minutes north of St Marys and 30 minutes from the Bay of Fires.
With the beach generally no more than 400m from any property in town, Scamander is a very popular holiday spot and provides safe areas to swim, fish and surf.
There is an IGA supermarket, post office, petrol station, golf club, bowls club, newsagent, take away, chemist, hotel, bottleshop and coffee shops in Scamander.
In regard to schools, there is the choice of sending your children to either St Helens or St Marys. Both schools incorporate years kinder to 12, with St Helens also offering an adult trade centre.
Both St Helens and St Marys have a district hospital and a full-time paramedic is based on Scamander.
Employment in Scamander is primarily in hospitality, however most people work in St Helens which is the largest town on Tasmania's east coast.
Public transport to St Helens and Launceston is available daily via bus.
You'll find the locals in Scamander are friendly, down to earth and always up for a chat. The beach is clean and you'll usually have it to yourself!
