How is the public transport commute from Seabrook to CBD?

I will be moving on an expat assignment from India to Melbourne in June. We are a family of 3 with 6.5 years old son. Seabrook Primary School gave us a positive response that he will get enrolled in year 1 if we can secure a rental in their zone.

My rental limit is around $350 to 375 pw and Seabrook seems to fit well.

However my office location will be Elizabeth Street (working for NBN) and I want to avoid buying a car for the first few months.

What is the office commute times and accessibility of this suburb from CBD by public transportation ?

I live in Seabrook Blvd (South end, close to the beginning of the homestead run estate) and it takes 25 minutes for me to walk to Aircraft station in the mornings. If i'm walking between 7:00-8:30am, then I will be moving faster than the cars on the road; the traffic is really bad.
You could shave off 10-15 minutes if you lived in the north end of Seabrook.

Aircraft station is zone 2 but as of Jan 2015 the Myki fare is the same as zone 1.

Hi AsheeshJoshi,

There is a bus running through Point Cook Road and Laverton train station, the bus number is 496, from my memory, it runs every 20 mins on peak and 40 mins on off peak hours.

Depending on the traffic and which stop you get on, it should only take about 15 mins from Seabrook to Laverton train station.

From Laverton train station, you could either choose to take the limited express or stopping all stations, there is one generally every 10 mins in peak times. Limited express takes around 25mins whilst all stations 40mins. If you don't want to get sardined and more reliable service, take the all station train as it originates from Laverton so you will get spoiled with seats, especially if you have a child.

I pretty much drive to train station from where I live which is in Homestead Run area, take the 7:16am all station train, I get to Flinders Street at 7:55am.

Hope this helps and wish you best of luck in finding a house and your move.
