Private vs public school

St Ives, NSW 2075 is located within the Ku-ring-gai local government area, part of the Sydney (Greater) Region in New South Wales.

How easy/difficult is it to get to Abbotsleigh School for girls or Covenant Christian School Sydney from St Ives? Also, how are the public schools in the area, which are the better ones and why?

Abbotsleigh offers a private coach for children traveling to their school. i.e. Pick up from Brigidine College, or St Ives Bowling Club bus stops. Probably a few more stops.
Public Schools in St Ives are exceptional. You can't go wrong. Depending on your catchment area, St Ives North is one of the highest ranking Non-Selective schools in the state.
Having said that, Abbotsleigh is one of the highest ranking schools in the state and has an entrance exam to apply. Chances of being accepted will increase if you start as early as possible. Just my opinion and obviously depends on your daughter(s) academics. Due to it's ranking and popularity it is challenging to gain entrance.
But as I said, and others have also said, St Ives offers exceptional public schools. You can't go wrong.

St Ives Public School has an amazing Principal and is very well resourced. Our daughter went to SIPS for Year 1 and 2 and we were very impressed. Lovely teachers and warm parent community
