"Not friendly ĺdisappointing place for mej"

Lived here for nearly 8 years find the people not friendly. Overcrowded in summer and extremely humid. Poor bus infrustructure . Only one road into Caloundra like a car park

so true

Agree, with the car park comment, especially since the last few years half of bloody Victorians have moved up and increased the traffic and pushed the house prices up so locals can't afford to buy. They should of kept the borders shut as to many people moving up have ruined what made it so nice to live there. Not sure but Caloundra is such a friendly place.

"Something for Everyone"

We just love Caloundra because it has something for everyone and is positioned both within easy access to both airports and every facility on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. You can drive yourself or arrive by train and there are local buses and ones to get you around the coast or to the airport. Caloundra itself has several large supermarkets and department stores plus a range of speciality shops for clothes, food and entertaining. To cater for all age groups and tastes, one can fine dine, have a relaxing pub meal or buy take away fish and chips to eat on the beach. There are tremendous facilities all along the coastline with free BBQ's and picnic tables on the beaches as well as in the parks, which also meet the beach. Swimming is good for both surfers and paddlers with 4 or 5 beaches within 10 minutes of Caloundra and one of it's greatest benefits is that families have safe quiet waters along with open surf and lifeguard patrolled stretches. All beaches are sandy but also have rock headlands to walk or fish from with nice elevated board walks and vantage spots to sit and admire the view. We love Caloundra and spend our time between UK, France, Brisbane and Caloundra because we find it one of the most relaxing, safe, enjoyable, quality lifestyle places in the World today. There are aren't many places where can one sit on the beach in the Lifesaver's Clubhouse and have a beer/wine and meal for $10 or sit in a fine dining restaurant admiring the sea views for $100 - it's the sort of relaxed place that attracts families and singles who want peace and quiet or night life.....all in a safe, friendly atmosphere.

Hi, could you please tell me if you would be able to live here and not have a car. Am looking to move somewhere with good public transport and walking distance to shops etc. Thank you!

kerry99

When we returned from overseas, we lived in Caloundra for 6 months before buying a car and completely relied on walking and catching buses. The services are reliable, frequent and good value with connections also to train stations for longer trips to Brisbane, an hour away. All shops are within easy walking distance in Caloundra as are Doctors, Specialty Centres and Government Offices etc.

That's great thank you so much for your reply!

Great review thanks and Caloundra sounds lovely. Unfortunately Homely doesn't display dates on all reviews, I asked saying this made reviews less valuable given how much areas can change etc in just a year or more, but they said they don't because they want to encourage newer reviews - so looks like they're not going to start. Therefore can someone please tell me whether it's still the safe friendly place or whether things have changed, like a rise in drug use and associated crime?
And living costs - for example are these $10 meals at the Lifesavers Clubhouse current for August 2017, or a thing of many years ago and it's not that cheap anymore? Thanks for any help. :)

Thanks for the detailed report kerry99. I'd be interested to hear where you moved to after Caloundra and if you found anywhere nicer.

"Perfect Investment Location"

Caloundra has the best of all of Queensland. Sun, surf, sand and beautiful sunsets. The area is undervalued and will explode over the next decade. Due to the relaxed way of life and clear air, access to surf, fishing and amenties, Caloundra has to imrpove in value exponentially. There need to be a few more large shopping precincts and Caloundra will have it all.

New housing estates will ensure that there is the poplation to sustain new shopping developments. Hopefullty the local council will be able to keep up with it.

@CaloundraFan !!! the population is now out of control!!! Investors and interstaters have flooded the market and rents are out of control!!! As is the housing market! AirBnB has taken over and reduced rentals with ppl buying here on tiny little blocks you can't swing a cat! the houses are so squashed in you can't get emergency services through like bin guys or firetrucks or ambulances in many cases due to people parking on the streets as they have nowhere else to park in their tiny little houses because the roads are way too narrow!!! People get fined for parking on the verge by Sunshine Coast city council due to their greed and developers opening up estates and fitting and squashing as many in as possible!!! Caloundra is now only a tourist destination and the main street most shops now pretty much vacant and the remaining ones are just getting by struggling! There is no main infrastructure and anyone that has to get any decent goods has to drive miles to kawana or Maroochydore for any furniture or electrical goods as Caloundra has now lost all their main shops that were any good like Dick Smith or any furniture bedding /electrical shops! As for under valued this must be a very very old review its now the most expensive area to live in since C ovid and people working from home and migrating here from everywhere! There is quite simply no more room here for anyone!! It's that packed you can't even move on the roads anymore!!! This is an honest review because its ruined!!! It's also known as retirement " on Golden Pond" for people that come here to retire!! It's an over populated over priced mess ! As for public transport the occasional bus and you are stuffed if you do not own a car!! The proposed trainline for the last 15 years has still not gone in that was supposed to connect up to Landsborough! It's also now full of cashed up bogans from down South! The quality of people here is now transient as it always has been as there is no work here and any decent paying jobs many have to travel to Brisbane for.

"Fantastic location"

Caloundra West is ideally located only minutes away from the commercial centre of Caloundra and the beach whilst retaining a feeling of solitude and ambience. Great parks and walkways, quiet (apart from the ocasional aeroplane) with lovely streetscapes. A great place to own a home and live.

"Great Area with Large Parks and Lakes"

Bellvista Estate is a Stockland development that is well laid out with large parks and lakes full of ducks that the kids can feed. A new shopping centre is opening next year (August 2010) which will include a Doctors Surgery, Dentist, Pharmacy, Newsagent, Bakery, Hair & Beauty Salon and a major retail supermarket along with a licenced tavern. Great area to raise a family and close to the beaches. Bellvista provides quick access to the Bruce Highway and is the closest sunshine coast suburb to Brisbane.

"Caloundra- Ideal place for all ages"

Caloundra is located on the southern end of the Sunshine Coast and is a Mecca for beach goers of all ages. Here there are some great beaches suitable for families and surfers combined with some great spots for a picnic. You can get involves with most water sports or go horse riding, drive Go Karts or get a bird’s eye view by taking a balloon ride. Shopping is good in Caloundra with many shops for your every need. There are plenty of restaurants, bistro and cafe as well as the usual fast food outlets. Accommodation is also plentiful with caravan parks, motel and hotels as well as resorts, holiday apartments etc. House and unit prices here reflect the areas growth but there are still plenty of bargains to be had. The rental market is spread across all budgets as well making Caloundra a popular place to nest or invest.

"Small pretty coastal town ideal for family holidays."

Caloundra is a pretty town that has continued to grow in population and holiday popularity over the last 20 years. There are now quality cafes and restaurants and also accommodation at all levels to make Caloundra a destination that suits families of every size.

It is close to many surf beaches but also skirts the edge of the lovely Pumistone Passage.

There are a range of family activities available from: many childrens playgrounds and parks, fishing, safe and surf beaches, wind surfing, boating, golf, 15 mins drive to Australia Zoo, bush walks and more.

There are some attractive boutiques and the main street is so pretty is worth a visit just for that alone. In the main street on a Sunday the hold a market which is very popular and a wide range of products on sale.
