I recently moved here from Burwood two years ago, and I absolutely love this area! It might not be for everyone, but it's perfect for me. Waking up to the sound of birds singing and enjoying the peacefulness is such a joy—something I really missed when I lived closer to the CBD. The people here are kinder and more considerate compared to the bustling city life, where the density can often bring noise and chaos. Now that I work from home, life is so much easier! I'm close to Croydon Station and all the amenities I need. Truly, this place feels like home!

Croydon is a very suitable neighborhood for families, and its proximity to Yarra Valley makes it ideal for various activities. The neighbors are kind, friendly, and there's a sense of safety. There are quite decent schools in the area. The streets are clean, and there's good greenery. However, the downside is the distance from the CBD. Main street boasts many great cafes and shops, and Eastland Shopping Centre is within a 10-15 minute drive.

I lived here for 28 years and I've come to appreciate it more since moving away. For a family, it's ideal: it has some good schools and plenty of green spaces. Since I've left, it's really upped its cafe game, too. My main drag has nothing on Croydon Main Street! My only criticism is it's too far away from the city — 50 minutes by train. Commuting from Croydon to almost anywhere beyond its general locality is always a hike. If accessibility to more central locations is important to you, don't live here. If you want to live in a bubble that caters to your every need and that you'll rarely need to stray from, Croydon is your suburb. (It's also fairly close to the Yarra Valley, if that's something that interests you.)

Great area which is close to Eastlink and Eastland but also not far from the Yarra Valley for a nice weekend activity. Great for families, singles or couples!

Croydon is a relaxed and vibrant area away from the busy city. Popular with families, it has a range of lovely parks, localised shopping, an independent cinema and a laidback leisurely lifestyle – all with good roads and public transport to keep convenience at your door.

Great access to city via train/Eastern Freeway. Very green and leafy at the base of Mt Dandenong.
Plenty of beautiful streets with lovely homes. A vast choice of primary and secondary schools including private/state/catholic/alternative. Still a bit rough in areas and the Main Street could do with a facelift but it’s on its way to being gentrified

I have been living in Croydon since 2013 and I love it! There is an abundance of trees and magnificent views of Mt Dandenong. I live in central Croydon and can walk everywhere! Within a 10min walk there is everything you need - supermarkets, shops (including a very nice bookshop), cafes, post office, library, swimming pools, a large number of gyms. Recreational facilities are excellent - there are several large parks here and Mt Dandenong is really not far. Schools are not great in my opinion and distance from the City makes it hard to get anywhere, but you can get used to that. I lived in the Inner East before I moved to Croydon, but actually find Croydon a much more interesting place to live.

I've lived in Croydon for 2 years. The options for food and general shopping is actually pretty good, you have Croydon Central, Civic Square, Chirnside and Eastland all very close (though Chirnside is not so PTV friendly). In terms of going out at night, not great, there is one bar of note that does custom Vodka Flavours (low alcohol but tastes nice). During the day though, there is a decent selection of Cafes and other places to grab lunch.

PTV is good in the sense that Croydon is a main stop on the Lilydale line so every train stops there. However, for people heading to the CBD it does take 40-50 minutes. For students (further ed) you have Swinburne Croydon Campus which offers TAFE courses, as for going out, again if you want the CBD it takes a while.

Overall, I would say Croydon has good food, decent shopping options, poor nightlife and is most beneficial to those who drive. I should also mention there is a lot of green which may be appealing, though the crime rate is actually kind of high compared to many suburbs closer to the city.

Croydon is located in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is surrounded by extensive parklands. Some of the popular ones are Candlebark Walk Reserve in Croydon Hills which has a lake and has a great walking/bike trail. Ainslie Park is great for sporting enthusiasts and children and toddlers as it includes a playground, an oval, cricket practice nets, basketball court, half netball court, guide hall and walking circuit around the reserve. Grandfill Reserve is a major flora sanctuary in the birdlife corridor in Croydon. It focuses on preserving indigenous flora making it attractive for bushwalking. Across the railway line and in the heart of Croydon is Croydon Central which caters for all essential services ranging from clothing stores, health and beauty and a wide selection of fresh and local food with a vision to develop further retail services converting it to a vibrant and central community hub. Another appreciable feature amongst the many shopping facilities is the attractive tree-lined shopping strip on Main Street where you can enjoy a number of different outdoor eateries, cafes and retail shops. Great schools surrounding the area include Croydon Primary School, Croydon Community School, Melba College and Sacred Heart Primary School. Not to mention the highly reputable Luther College in Croydon Hills and Yarra Valley Grammar in Ringwood.
Croydon is also home to many aged care facilities namely Bupa Aged Care Croydon and Donwood Community Aged Care Services Inc, the suburb of Croydon caters to all. With such a wide choice for lifestyle, it is not surprising to find why families and young couples and retirees choose this suburb as their home.
