Reviews of Melton South, VIC

"Melton South-A world of opportunities"

I moved to Melton South about 5years ago and purchased my first home. Friends and family were skeptical about how safe the area was.
Since I have lived here I have been very pleased with the area. There has been so much growth, changes in demographics and new developments pop up over the period. The council has also done a great job with recently updated the park & rec areas!
People are now seeing great value and potential in the area and I look forward to seeing what the future of Melton holds.

"Melton South, the land of opportunity"

Melton South has potential to be something great! With older houses on big blocks its only inevitable that new people will buy into the area renovate or build new which will dramatically change the area for the better. This process has already began. Why buy a small over priced new house or home and land package when you can buy something already established close to shops, public transport and on a big block of land for a bargain price.

As time goes on Melton South will only improve.

"Great for Investors or first home buyers"

Melton South is a cheaper and older part of the Melton area and it hasnt got the best reputation, but it has a lot going for it also. It has excellent schools and public transport. The housing is cheap and the rental return is good so this makes it great value if you are looking for an investment property.

"Friendly old school neighbours share their backyard lemons, almonds over the back fence."

I'm a lady and I'm always walking or riding my bike .Have lived here for 5 years after living in richmond. Lots of young families whom like walking their kids to school. Rental prices going up. I'm seeing less of the rough types around now a days. Lots of people like having a chat with. Generally people are friendly. You can't judge a book by its cover. I've saved heaps of money living here and have found trustworthy solid gold friendships. I still work in the city but life is less stressful. I have made my own little family here and enjoy all the little blue wrens and milky way skies in my large backyard. I have ample rooms. The houses maybe old but have been built well with few cracking. If you are creative and a doer in life not a complainer this place may well be a good start.

Not great for

  • Limited shopping, regularly drive to Ballarat or Deer Park to get things that are unavailable here
  • Run down in parts

Residential homes in and around Melton South, nearby the only Railway Station and Bus Terminal in Melton, is considered to be the best value for long term investment. It is an ideal family home address for young families with growing up school children. Victoria University, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools are surrounded at this perfect location for parents who prefer to walk their children to schools. It is not merely a big saving on transportation costs; but it also allows you to spend more quality time with your family.

I don't know how old this review is, but the Victoria University Melton campus was closed many years ago. It's now Al-Iman Islamic school...

"Just dont do it... and heres why."

Melton South is ok, there are many nice streets, and only a few "bad" areas, but, you will get better elsewhere. Pay that small amount extra and buy into Melton, Melton West or Kurunjang, those 3 suburbs are lovely, well serviced and alot cleaner. As in investment area it is fine, but I just don't see why anyone would set up home there, when you can buy a house in a good street in the other Melton areas at not much extra cost.
For the record, the area is seedy, but it isn't thrown in your face. Your neighbour may be on drugs but they won't bother you.
