"Best kept suburb in SE Melbourne"
Mount Waverley is a great suburb with some minor issues that large number of suburbs in the country has to deal with. Yet it is a wonderful one getting ready for its next phase of life.
The suburb is quite,leafy and have great amenities. all big and must things are not too close but not far either.
Chadstone shopping, Monash hospital, M1,Aquatic centre,Restaurants precinct etc....
Everything in 10 minutes drive...Great schools...MWSC,MWPS,Wesley...to name a few....
Transmission line is an evil that modern society needs to deal with. I guess more dangerous is standing next to a microwave oven waiting for your pasta to be heated up for 30 sec..that is more dangerous than living next to a power line for many years..I am not saying HV transmission lines are great.They all pose risk...
They run along lots of suburb, even private schools wealthy parents send their children to. e,g Caulfield Grammer in Wheelers hill...
It is a nice little suburb tucked away nicely..It still has a bit country beauty...

Hi jimmy, I have received just mixed review about Frankston. This area really appeals to us, as I have heard the schools are good. We live in the Uk, but are hoping to emigrate in the next 2 years. A long way off I know, but it's good to get an idea of the best suburbs to live in. Any advice would be invaluable. Many thanks
Hi CheS, Try to avoid frankston North, it's a dump area. Go somewhere further south to mount Eliza.
Hi I am from Glen Waverley and moved here 5 years ago from Box Hill. I am from an English background. Moving to Frankston or Doveton over Glen Waverley mmmm not sure where the reviewer found their facts about these suburbs.
Glen Waverley has a high Asian population- made up of Indian, Hong Kong , Japan and mainland China. As well as a smaller minority of Aussies. We live in a wonderful street where all the other home owners are of an Asian background.
I love this about Glen Waverley. The neighbours are polite and very friendly and have a great education/work ethic.
The schools are very well resourced and high achieving . Such as Wesley College which is private and Glen Waverley Secondary College which is State,as well as many catholic and state Primary Schools.
The suburb has many good shops, Centro the Glen shopping complex, many restaurants.
Also very family friendly. Great train line and easy access to the main roads and freeways.
You will feel very safe living here.
Brighton , parkdale, Mentone is a better option for the same price. Closer to the beach, better golf courses and life style. Hard to get car park for the train station in glen waverly or mount waverley and is far away from the city.
To pay. $1.2 million for a house 23 minute with no traffic to the city is a joke.
Bayside suburds is much better. Better value for money..

Mount Waverley is a blue chip suburb, has some of the best amenities that Melbourne can offer such as Chadstone SC, public & private schools within 5-10km that are highly ranked, Monash hospital and easy access to freeways and major arterial roads. Correct me if im wrong but for 2015/16 it was the highest growth suburb (%) in Melbourne. Great suburb would never leave.
"Good and Bad"
Mount Waverley is an overpriced suburb with some good areas (far and few) and bad areas (near high transmission line area). The traffic is worse and you hardly get any parking at station. Mount Waverley school is struggling with enrolments and ranking.
No major shopping centres, just piggybacks on Chadstone and Glen which are also located in adjoining suburbs.
There are better options to buy.
"A wonderful lifestyle in Mount Waverley"
Mount Waverley is a wonderful suburb to call home. Schools and childcare facilities, sports facilities, some restaurants, nice parks and open spaces, quick access to the CBD via trains or the Monash Freeway are some of the reasons I wouldn't live anywhere else. It is also very safe to live in here. A great suburb for most families.

"Fantastic Suburb"
Our family bought a house in 2009. Family is fond of the schools, parks and shopping. Kids attended MWSC and ended up with good grades. We made no compromise to maintain a good work life balance living here. Looking back, it was a good decision to move here.

"Established Suburb"
Having personally been a residence in Mount Waverley. I have found that the area is close to shops, quality schools, and public transport including trains and buses. Easy access to the Freeway with 20-25 mins into the CBD. It also has several parks to walk your dogs. People living in here are very friendly.

Mount Waverley is 15 km southeast of the CBD & is home to some of Melbourne’s prestigious schools including Avila, Mount Waverley Secondary College & Mount Waverley Nth Primary. Along with the local train station & shops, the suburb also has a local park called Tally Ho that accommodates, tennis, footy & a playground. For a standard 3-bedroom house, you can expect to pay approx $480 per week.

"Moved here and feels like home already"
We moved here in the midst of lockdowns from Perth. So far our experience of the place is great. Seems a very tidy suburb and is very accessible to everything even without a car. Feels like home already and we have only just settled in.

This is in addition to the comments of other people -> The good, ideal commercial/residential property ratio. The bad, if you're asian, there's plenty of old people here with the same mindset as Pauline Hanson. Sad, but true.

"Starting to become like Glen Waverley"
Most of the people here are retirees or cashed up migrant families so it's quite a boring neighbourhood. I noticed that those people who lived in this area for long seems not happy with their new neighbours. I say more than half of them have already sold or are planning to sell their property to cash in with the ridiculous high price. There are train stations in the area but parking is a big problem. Not sure on the comments here about plenty of parking? Where?

"Great suburb to live and work"
Leafy, friendly and expensive!!! But lots of parking everywhere and great connectivity with Mount Waverley and Syndal stations. Very good schools (both public and private). Demographics: Older people, so quiet neighbourhoods. Medical is ok, and nearest public hospital is Monash medical centre. Rents are higher than average --- houses are old and expensive to buy. Many million $$ homes found here. 40-45 minutes to city. No major entertainment, but shopping is always close here.

Not as expensive and exclusive highly sought after like Kew, Balwyn and Balwyn North with huge French, Italian and Art-deco homes!!!
Only suburbs I suggest that are worth good investments and top performing public schools is Balwyn and Balwyn North since they are epicentre suburbs of Melbourne's American US

"Great for families with children"
I have been looking for the right property in Mount Waverley (MW) for over 8 years and finally got one recently. 7 reasons why...
1. MW is well-connected - public transport either by train (Zone 2 & you get a seat) tram (Burwood Highway) or by car (Monash Freeway)
2. MW has great schools - you don't even need to go private. Childcare, primary, secondary and unis are all so close by - walking distance from where I live so I have sold my second car. Has some of the best schools in Victoria close by or in adjacent suburbs < 5 mins by car or a brisk walk (Glendal Primary, MW Primary, MW North Primary, Syndal South Primary, Huntingtower, MW Secondary, John Monash Science School)
3. Due to the infrastructure and schools, demand is always high so capital growth is good. It is a favourite for those parents who are keen on good education for their kids. You can go from P-12 and have a great education without forking out heaps on private schools, too.
4. Shops - Glen, Chaddy, MW Village (including farmer's market every fortnight, I think), Blackburn Rd shops, etc.
5. Work - there are a bunch of companies quite close by so your commute could be really short if you work there.
6. Block sizes are large (great for kids) though the houses are a bit old and could do with renovation. That said, the construction materials they used before like steel windows, terracotta tiles, and so on are rustic, but good. Aim to get one on a flat section, if you can, with a northerly aspect.

"It is what it is"
Mount Waverley started as the "Napppy belt of the early 60's. Affordable housing for young families with adequate schools, health services, churches and parks. It has remained that over the years. The trees that all home owners were encouraged to build have grown and given the suburb its green and softned appearance. The houses were modest on mainly 1/4 acre blocks. When we bought in Mt Waverley in the early 90's we were attracted to the quiet, green leafy streets but also the good schools and amenities. The blandness of a 60's house offered scope to extend or renovate along with a good sized block. Mount Waverley wasn't and still isn't within most first home buyers scope.

"Everything at your doorstep"
I found living in Mount Waverley very convenient with everything at my doorstep.
Public transport is covered by Mt Waverley and Syndal tran stations, shopping by the Glen, Forest Hill or Chadstone shopping centers, and Schools by the myriad of high schools and primary schools in the area.
The area is very quiet being a fairly old suburb with many retirees.
There are many great places to dine out in and around Mount Waverley.
All in all its a very nice place to live but a little expensive.

Live in Balwyn or Kew. Otherwise live in Malvern, Armadale ; they are firing hot suburbs compared to Mount Waverley
But you cannot find a 3-4 BR rental property with a backyard for under $600 a week in Kew or Balwyn, and Armadale is NOT family friendly. Kew is boring too (I lived close by in Hawthorn East for 5 years). I am trying to find a good suburb to raise my 3yo and 18mo that's affordable and convenient, Mt Waverley sounds like it ticks a lot of boxes. It's great that you love where you live, but why hijack this page with yr anti-Mt Waverley comments?

"A great all-rounder"
Mt Waverley is the perfect place to raise a family. I grew up here and found Mt Waverley to be always friendly, clean and safe. Public transport access is great for parents with Teens, and those parents can relax knowing the streets are a safe place ot be at night.
Local parks such as Valley Reserve and Damper Creek are incredible and give the suburb a wonderful country feel. The array of native flora and fauna is also impressive and you'll see plenty of them along the neat tree lines streets.
Without a doubt the closer to the rail station you live, the better living in Mount Waverley is. But no matter where on The Mount you choose to live, you'll surely enjoy.

"Close to everything is a top area"
One of the benefits of Mt Waverly is its proximity to everything you need while being a short drive from the city.
There are good schools and childcare centres close by and there is nothing better than having one of those around the corner saving that extra hassle in the morning.
There are plenty of good shops near by including Chadstone as well as the local shops and hairdressers, video stores and milkbars.
It is a nice green area and it shows with the abundance of wildlife around. You’ll see lorikeets and other wonderful birds as well as the odd duck and possum.
There are some good parks in the area making it a great place for the kids and those with dogs. Take them to the local park and let them run.
Public transport services the area well so the commute to the city is pretty easy.

The area is ok but I would seriously look at doveton or Frankston for oversea buyers.
The area is overrated and education is not as good as the schools in Frankston
For overseas buyers, give it a miss and look at Ballarat, Bendigo or Doveton.
