Redcliffe, QLD 4020

We moved here from Sydney 10 years ago and couldn't be happier. It's like living in paradise. We've got a water view from our unit - such affordable luxury would be out of our price range anywhere else.

Redcliffe has a vibrant history, and the main street (Redcliffe Parade) still has an old-world feel to it. The waterfront has been completely renovated in the last couple of years, and it is fantastic. Beautiful large art works , a wonderful war memorial, heaps of good seating along the water. The Settlement Lagoon area is a wonderful place for families - a huge swimming area like an upmarket resort, with a big play park adjacent. A great place for a day out. On Sundays the whole waterfront area is alive with the Waterfront Market - great food stalls, buskers, art and craft for sale.

Half-way along the waterfront is Bee Gee's Place, a street dedicated to the famous group who spent their childhood in Redcliffe. Barry Gibb designed the area, which has a huge long wall of Bee Gee's photographs and stories written by him. At the waterfront end of the walkway is a life-sized statue of the boys as children - this area is a big drawcard for Bee Gee's fans from all over the world. Barry came to open it in February 2013 and it always has a crowd of people walking along reading the stories.

For eating out, Redcliffe has a huge range of eateries. Sidewalk cafes are everywhere along the waterfront, with regular ones like Coffee Club and Banjo's, as well as many local ones. For fine dining you can't go past Mon Komo or The Golden Ox ( which recently won "best fine dining in North Brisbane".) The usual clubs are well represented - RSL, The Dolphins Football club, the Redcliffe Golf Club. On the Scarborough end of the Peninsula there is Morgan's classic seafood restaurant - best fish and chips ever.

Local shopping isn't great - but a short drive to Kippa Ring gives a good shopping experience, and a little further along is North Lakes , with Myer, DJ's, Target, Bunnings.

Redcliffe is very safe area to live - just the usual small-time crime levels. The local kids sometimes hoon up and down Anzac Avenue on a Saturday night, but the police keep them in check and I've never heard of anything untoward happening. There is a good skateboard park in Oxley Avenue which attracts a lot of kids but I've never heard of any trouble there. You can go for a walk in the evening, along Humpybong Creek or the waterfront, and never have to worry about your safety. I'd highly recommend this area for families or retired people.

Overcrowded, overpriced and overrated.

Terrible place to live, full of crime, shit food outlets, scum people and vulture real estate agents.

I've yet to find any reason to like Redcliffe or the surrounding suburbs.
Infact I can't wait to leave the area for good.

Worst place to live! Absolute shithole!

We moved to Brisbane from Sydney almost 4 years ago. When meeting my wedding make up artist in the area we immediately fell in love with the peninsula!! We found a rental as soon as our lease was up and were lucky to buy our first home here a year ago. We were surprised nobody mentioned this area to us considering we were from the central coast in N.S.W. This area very much reminds us of that area, a beachy, cruisy vibe not far from the city for employment opportunities and stability.

A beautiful place to live! Very relaxed with easy access to any shops, schools, ect

Redcliffe is a gem of the Moreton Bay Region & its easy to see why. Having lived in so many other places, Redcliffe was by far my favourite (though Woorim is a close second). Redcliffe has everything in a short walk - supermarkets, loads of restaurants, cafe's, Sunday markets, waterfront paths & parks, the lagoon, medical & transport. The old & new mix really well & all this just 45 mins to Brisbane. I hope to be able to move back here one day!

I fell in love with Redcliffe over 20 years ago,the first time coming over the bridge.I didn't get the chance to move here until 10 years ago,and couldn't be happier.I love the well maintained foreshore,beautiful lagoon area,the restaurants and the people.This area had a bad name for many years however times are changing and people and investors are realising what a special place this is.Its only 25 minutes to Brisbane airport and ok 1 hour on the train if you must go to the city.Personally I prefer not to go to the Brisbane CBD as no need. Westfield North Lakes is only a 20 minute drive away.I do live east of Oxley Ave though,so this may be why I love it so much

Before we purchased we checked the Brisbane airport flight paths to ensure we would not be affected by aircraft noise the information provided indicated no flight paths over our area yet we have flights everyday starting at 4:30 am it doesn’t matter which way they land or take off Airservices ensures maximum noise over people in Redcliffe

The Government has invested heavily into the Redcliffe peninsula and this has lead to rapid gentrification over the last decade. This has encouraged developers to build waterfront luxury apartments and small business owners to open up their cafes and restaurants.

In recent years, the development of Bee Gees Way and the the new ownership of the Redcliffe Jetty Markets has lead to influx of day trip visitors to the region. The markets are located along the entire main esplanade and are reminiscent of the inner-city markets of New Farm and West End.

While Redcliffe has multiple state schools on the peninsula, it is also closely located to high performing private schools in the suburb of Rothwell and a brand new university campus in the suburb of Petrie.

Top-tier private schools in the area:
- Grace Lutheran College
- Mueller College

Top-tier universities in the area:
- The University of the Sunshine Coast - Petrie campus

The Redcliffe peninsula has multiple shopping centres with all the basic essentials (i.e. supermarkets, Target/Kmart, cinemas). However, you will need to drive up to 20 minutes to North Lakes for Westfield, Costco and IKEA.

The most shocking aspect of moving to Redcliffe peninsula was the low quality of housing. The housing mainly consisted of asbestos-built beach shacks. However, over the last few years, these have largely been replaced with brand new homes as new residents take advantage of the relatively low prices. In addition, Stockland has also started expanding their housing developments in nearby Newport and Rothwell. This will lead to more positive outcomes for residents in the area.

The main negative aspect of living in Redcliffe is the commute to the Brisbane CBD. You have two options in this regard:
- Drive to Kippa-Ring station and take the train to Central station (total commute time = 1 hour)
- Drive to Sandgate station and take the train to Central station (total commute time = 1 hour)

The promise of a new train route to the Brisbane CBD was an opportunity to reduce the commuting time and reduce the unemployment rate. However, in reality the new train line that was over-budget, overdue, too slow in its current format and lacked timely connecting bus services. There needs to be a discussion to reduce the commuting time as the train line is currently a detriment to future economic growth in the region. I would suggest an introduction of express services that only stop between the Kippa-Ring to Petrie stations.

Redcliffe is a suburb that has a questionable past and a very bright future. The Government and small business owners have embraced the gentrification mindset and this trend will only continue as more people choose to make this region their home.

If you are looking for a place to call home that keeps up with modern life but harks back at time to how Australia was in it's heyday then the Redcliffe Peninsula is the place for you. Genuine people with an easy pace of life. Pretty much everything you need within a 5km radius. Coast and beaches on your doorstep and the airport , city, and further amenities all within 30-45 minutes. Having lived in many locations globally and nationally I can say that the Peninsula is a very special place indeed. Anyone considering the move won't regret it, but please give it the respect it deserves as we are as a community as good as we are as individuals.
