Tallangatta, VIC 3700

We chose to move to Tallangatta after doing a lot of research about the towns around north east Victoria - it has so many things that make it a perfect town for families and people who prefer mountains and rivers over beaches

-Close to ski resorts and ski towns (Falls Creek, Hotham, Thredbo are all close (by Aussie standards)
-Close to a major city (Albury Wodonga has everything you need with 100k+ people and is 30-40minutes)
-Quiet town with only two roads in/out
-Decent amenities for small town like the modern library, chemist, hospital
-Close to tourist hotspots without the crowds (Bright, Yackandanda, Beechworth, Corryong, Mitta are all a short drive but you don't have to live with the tourists every day
-Rail trail all the way to Wodonga
-A beautiful lake at your doorstep (or sometimes a river, but still pretty)
-Surrounded by the biggest peaks in Australia - from Bogong to Kosciuszko

It kind of feels like how towns "used to be" with everyone friendly and looking out for each other, like a town still with the lifestyle of the 70s and 80s. It's not perfect, or the most glamourous, but it is iconic country Australian life - which is the best place to raise kids these days.
