Reviews of Thirlmere, NSW
"Great Place to Live"
Great place to raise a family & offers the perfect semi rural lifestyle. Approx. 5-10 minutes drive to the larger towns of Tahmoor & Picton. Also has the steam train museum & annual festival that attracts thousands of tourists to the area each year.

"Great place to raise a family and great community spirit"
Thirlmere is quiet and humble village, a great place to retire or to raise a family - it has an excellent public school and there are high schools in the neighbouring towns of Tahmoor and Picton.
I escaped the rat race and moved here with my young family 5 years back and couldnt be happier.
There is a great sense of community, the locals here really banded behind my family & I when our daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness - we were overwhelmed by the kindness which came from the locals that we knew and also those that we didnt.
The steam festival is a great local event and is held annually - the village is jumping on this day. With the recent major upgrade of the Thirlmere rail museum and the addition of a monthly creative traders market in the local park, Thirlmere is becoming a more popular tourist spot particularly on weekends. On market days & steam train ride days the main street of the village can become reasonably busy. All other areas of the village remain beautifully quiet.
Thirlmere isn't a retail haven to date but this has never been a bother to me as it does have a small retail strip with a supermarket, post office, bakery, hairdressers, fruit n veg store, take-away shops, pharmacy and a pub among others - all else can be found a few minutes away in the neighbouring towns of Picton & Tahmoor. Also, major shopping precincts can be found 15-20 mins drive away in either Campbelltown, Camden, Narellan, Mittagong and Bowral.
Wollongong & its beaches are 30 mins way. Sydney depending on the traffic can be an hour to an hour & 20mins drive away.

"very nice little town"
not many shops and they all seem to close before dark :( Takeaway even closes at around 5pm in the summer... They missed out on many sales from me in the time I lived there
