Thornlie, WA 6108

Thornlie, especially the Forest Lakes area, is a fantastic place to live with great public transport, beautiful lakes and parks, well-kept houses, and a safe, welcoming community. The suburb offers spacious housing on large blocks, which is becoming harder to find in Perth, and the area feels peaceful while still being close to essential amenities like schools, shops, and medical centres. It’s a friendly, convenient, and family friendly suburb that offers an excellent lifestyle.

Green and safe environment

Friendly people. Feel safe to live based on 5 years living in Thornlie. Diverse community is moving into the suburb which is good indication of suburb getting gentrified.

I notice lots of people mentioning West and East of Thornlie, I think that is very biased judgement. The West side has had newer houses only in small pockets closer to Canning Vale (circa 1980s - 1990s), the East Side originally had older houses (1960s - 1980s) however now the East has even more newer houses due to recent subdivisons and development where it is mostly occuring in the East of Thornlie.
I also see old comments labelling Maddington negatively, Maddington now when I drove past is all new houses and young established families moving there.
Ofcourse Thornlie is still heaps better than surrounding suburbs as it ticks it all, but now that I had seen Maddington as opposed to hearing about it, it is actually pretty decent suburb.

We moved to Thornlie a few years ago and can see ourselves living here for the next 20+ years. For a reasonable price we were able to buy close to the city (within 25 mins) with good public transport via the train which I catch every day to work and even better once the new Thornlie Cockburn Link is completed. There are lots of lovely parks in the suburb and the City of Gosnells has been doing lots of projects to upgrade facilities including the revamp of the Thornlie Leisureplex. Lots of good schools. A strong sense of community with events at the local footy club including food van and market stalls in summer, also good community organisations such as the Gosnells Toy LIbrary and Forest Lakes Family Center with playgroups and interest clubs. The block sizes are larger than most new developments giving us space for a big shed, pool and garden, the Aussie dream backyard!

Great area. Large blocks, good bang for your buck. Close to Public transport. Heaps of shops and parks nearby.

I live East of Spencer Road, and while I agree that the houses over this way are a little older and dated it's still a very safe and lovely area in which to live. The walk-paths along the river are splendid, and can safely be walked all hours of the day (I walk late-afternoon and there are always families with young children and dogs on leashes out for a stroll). Echoing the views of others who have posted here before me, there are plenty of older houses which have been demolished and rebuilt along Thornlie Ave, and an equal number of homes being renovated by young savvy types in neat little cul-de-sac's. There are some magnificent looking home on the banks of the Canning River (Jacqueline Drive, Glenbrook Road, Parkside Drive) although these are quite unaffordable nowadays. We live on Huggins Road and have never had any issues in the 13 years we've been there.

I moved in Thornlie a few years ago. My friends who lived near the Thornlie told me to buy west side of Spencer Rd of Thornlie,
avoid east part and near the train station. So I bought a house in the Regal Dr. And I am so happy. The street is beautiful, and quiet
I do not know very well about my neighbors but I can say that they are quiet, kind and friendly, I never had a long talk with them though.
I think I made a very good decision to buy the house in this part of Thornlie. I always wanted to live quiet and peaceful place and I found it

Lovely older suburb. Like has previously been mentioned, lots of younger families buying in and renovating. Also lots of subdivision with newer homes getting built. 15 minutes drive from Perth, 25 minute train ride. Plenty of parks and walking paths, river just down road also. We live on Albrecht Place.

Recommend to anyone especially younger families. Prices have risen quite dramatically though compared with a couple of years ago, so a bit more expensive these days.
