Toronto, NSW 2283

My family has lived in Toronto area for over 12 years. Our son went through both primary and high school there, the schools are excellent and there is a choice of both public and private. The area has improved over our time there, and now Toronto has excellent restaurants, shopping, clubs and sporting facilites. The area we lived in is safe, very friendly with little traffic. I would recommend Toronto to families, retirees and those who love living close to the lake which is beautiful.

Toronto is on the shores of Lake Macquarie north of Sydney and has much to offer both visitor and local alike. The Lake, being the largest saltwater lake in Australia is great for most water sports including swimming, sailing, scuba and jet skiing as well as boating and fishing with some good catches possible. Other outdoor activities include golf, bowls, cycling and tennis. Visit museums and galleries or spend the day looking at the local markets which are held at regular intervals. There are numerous cafes, restaurants and bistros as well as clubs serving great meals and accommodation is available to suit all budgets and tastes. Toronto is a great place for families and property prices are still at an affordable rate with rentals within the means of most renters.

Toronto is a lovely place to visit with a family. There is so much to do in the area including bike riding, fishing, boating, yachting, camping, sports as well as shopping and entertainment. Its not far from any major services and is a wonderful spot. We enjoy visiting Toronto and hope that others find it as enjoyable as we do.

Aside from it's proximity to Lake Macquarie, Toronto has very little going for it. Apart from a couple of bogan filled clubs there is a total absence of entertainment venues, the 'restaurants' are almost all of the 'chips with everything' variety and the main street consists of little more than a line of charity shops and employment agencies, due to almost all of the decent stores having left town years ago.

The nearest public hospital is a forty minute drive away ( on a quiet day ) and it's almost impossible to register with a local doctor as they have all closed their books to new patients. The unemployment in the area is chronic with no local employment apart from the local council, stacking shelves in the supermarket or working the night shift at the local gas station. As a result, 65% of the local population is in receipt of some type of welfare benefit with large swathes of the local area being given over to public housing to accommodate them. On a more positive note, the town does have it's own Centrelink office, Courthouse and police station, all of which are utilised to the full.

If you are an unemployed flannelette shirt wearing bogan with a ZZ Top beard and a penchant for foul language and tobacco products, then "Tronno" is the place for you. Otherwise I believe that prospective purchasers will be more than a little disappointed with the area.

Situated on the shores of Lake Macquarie one hour north of Hornsby, Toronto has grown to be a great place to live. There is a cafe strip opposite the waterfront and all the shops you need i.e. Coles, Woolworths and Aldi to name a few. 5 minutes from the F3 Freeway, Toronto is only 45 minutes to the Hunter Valley Vineyards, Newcastle Airport and 1 hour to Nelson Bay and Port Stephens. About half an hour from Newcastle, this lakeside suburb offers acreages, lake view properties, waterfront properties and a multitude of commercial, industrial and apartment living. Approx 20% of buyers are from Sydney and 30% come from Newcastle.
