Is Upwey a fire prone area?

Certain areas are - probably around the north east of Upwey around Belgrave-Ferny Creek Road and north west of Upwey around the top end of Mast Gully Road are possibly higher risk areas given the proximity of bushland.
There was a bad bush fire in 1997 and one in 2009 south of Glenfern Road near Birdsland Reserve.
There is to be a community fire shelter area in Thompson Reserve so houses around there should be a little safer!
Generally, though, Upwey is much safer than further up in the hills.
