"Urangan - Ideal place to live or visit"

Urangan is the gateway to Fraser Island and is a suburb of Hervey bay which is famous for whale and dolphin watching tours and attract tourists from all over the world. Urangan has a very long pier which attracts tourists and is a great place to drop a line. Safe swimming in the protected waters of the bay is great for families. Trips to Fraser Island leave at regular intervals. Activities around the area include but are not limited to, the Shark Museum, Putt Putt golf, Go Kart racing, water slides, horse riding, nature walks etc. There is plenty of accommodation options including large resort style or camping and there are a large number of shops and cafes along the foreshore and larger shopping centers in Hervey Bay proper. Considering the great location house prices at Urangan are reasonable as too are rentals.

Looking for a home in Urangan?

"Urangan, Hervey Bay"

Urangan runs along parallel to a beautiful esplanade and Sandy beaches. Urangan includes the boat harbour, Marina, parks boat club and renowned pier. Wide streets and large residential blocks make a perfect home environment. The Shopping Centre, schools, doctors clinics, cafes, fast food outlets, aged care facilities and full community care facilities. The Links bitumen pathway runs parallel to Boat Harbour Drive, providing a walking and bicycling path the full length of Hervey Bay. Locals want Urangan kept a secret because it is idyllic, just as it is. It should be top of the list.

"Close to everything !"

We have sold and purchased property three times since arriving in Hervey Bay ourselves in 2006. Being keen recreational fishers we wanted the convenience that comes with being close to the Urangan marina and boat club. We also find the Urangan Central shopping centre easy to get around and has our main shopping needs on a daily/weekly basis and we'll have a new Aldi store there shortly as well.

We also have a great selection of schools, child care, restaurants, cafes , botanic gardens , beaches and esplanade on our door step. We also believe Urangan has great potential for future capital growth through the marina precinct and large parcels of suitable land for development.

Great for

  • Great for recreational fishers and boaties with quick access to the Urangan marina
  • Botanic gardens
  • Great fishing on the Urangan Pier and beaches nearby
  • Climate, low cost of living and the best lifestyle in Oz.
  • Good beaches and lovely foreshore
  • Peppers Pier Resort - The Bayswater and Salt Cafe
  • Beautiful beaches
  • The Pier and Pier Park

"A great place to start out"

I have lived in Urangan the last 4 years, around the pier in a nice quiet street. I always feel safe walking home at night. Not a bad part of town at all. Our house is very affordable and it's a great place to start out! There is the new shopping centre now and it is clear to see Hervey Bay is growing but ultimately I still don't feel there's enough things for younger people to do.

Great for

  • Beautiful beaches
  • Climate, low cost of living and the best lifestyle in Oz.
  • Good beaches and lovely foreshore
  • Peppers Pier Resort - The Bayswater and Salt Cafe

Not great for

  • Can be humid in summer.

"Beachside haven"

I have lived in Urangan now for about 7 years and have loved the beachside atmosphere.
The beaches are safe and the foreshore is always clean and tidy - love the BBQ at the end of my street and use it regularly - a great place to relax with our friends.
Great to have Peppers (The Bayswater) within walking distance, and a variety of nice cafes close by too.
We love going for family walks and love the walking path along the Esplanade and the Urangan Pier - love watching the fishermen and riding bikes and playing in Pier Park (stopping for coffee at Pavillion, Blue Tandem and Swell of course)
If you want a nice relaxed family place to live I can seriously recommend Urangan.

Great for

  • Good beaches and lovely foreshore
  • Peppers Pier Resort - The Bayswater and Salt Cafe
  • The Pier and Pier Park

"Backward rural Queensland"

Yeah, great beaches as others state...but the ignorant locals allow their dogs to roam free on them. They allow them on beaches that dogs are banned on. They allow them off lead on beaches where they should be on a lead. Dog shit on the sand is a regular sight. Do not relax your guard for a minute if you have young children. When challenged the scum become belligerent.

Council is useless; I have reported scores of incidents with not one officer attending and not one fine issued. FCRC state that 'we are busy'.
Ditto for barking dogs in neighbourhoods. Ignorant dog owners and FCRC does not give a toss. They are of course products of the Queensland 'education' system.
Don't think of buying a house here-a quick look in the classifieds will see a moribund market with the same properties for sale that were on sale in 2010.
Oh and don't forget-no jobs except for a few menial low paid positions working for some 'self made; little dictator!

Have to agree wholeheartedly with you there Jimjim. Backwards place with no jobs whatsoever. Spent 5 years there and gave up on the place in the end. Nothing to do, no shops, Council haven't a clue and filled with ferals and pensioners who retired there with $50.00 and a change of shirt. Move to the Sunshine Coast hinterland! We did and love it, plenty of jobs on the coast, quiet rural feel where we are with all the amenities we'll ever need (Beerwah) and 45 minutes to the Big Vegas!

Gee JimJim, you must have had a hard time here. I've been here 7 years now and throughly enjoy the lifestyle and the locals. I started a job within 2 months of looking, so did my husband. (By the way.. a professional job not a 'menial low paid position') Maybe attitude helps? You get in life what you put out. Attacking the Queensland people is just ignorant, which you accuse them of. Everywhere has 'scum' as you put it, and lets face it .. you've moved to the Sunny Coast? ..umm

I live in Urangan and walk on the beaches regularly and have NEVER come across dog droppings (even on the dog walking beaches when I have joined my sister walking her dogs). I have found the dog walkers to be friendly and very responsible.
I am happy for my kids to use the beaches and we play and relax as a family on the beach regularly.

The jim that posted this has a hard time on the internet also. He can't seem to get his own email address so he uses others. He is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Maybe when he learns how email works he will get his own free account and be responsible for cleaning up his own account after posting such stupid remarks.

Hervey Bay and Maryboroough both over priced , incestuous, backwards anti progressive council. The place thrives on nepotism and negativity and is drenched in descent. It is also a Government disposal ground for pedophiles

"Urangan, the place to be."

The Hervey Bay area and in particular Urangan would have to rate as one of Australia's most desirable places to live. Pristine beaches, great fishing, low traffic and very very affordable housing are just some of the attractions. Add to those Fraser Island, whales during winter and the best climate in the country ensure that new comers to this area will be very happy. We sure are.

Great for

  • Climate, low cost of living and the best lifestyle in Oz.

Not great for

  • Can be humid in summer.
