"Borrow a cup of sugar type of place"
Fox chase is a nice neighborhood and has its own little charm. The houses are in quiet neighborhoods and quite safe. The school that your kids would go to would probably be greenburg or baldi, both of which are great schools. Pennypack park is in this area so it's a big plus. They offer a lot of different events like "Sheep Shearing Festival" and sell a lot of homemade yummies. The park itself is big and beautiful with lots of activities to partake in from biking to horse back riding to fishing. As for fitness, joggers like going in the park and with so many people around keeping a close eye on things, there's not really any crime.

"A neighborhood by any other name would be just as bad."
This area isn't much better than Kensington. Although I would say the amount of crime is slightly less than it is there, it's getting worse. While that area is starting to get some improvements here and there, this are is just on the slow roll downhill.
Great for
- Inexpensive
Not great for
- Crime on the rise
- Dirty
"Kensington: The good, the bad and the ugly."
Mention that you even need to drive through Kensington and people cringe and ask if you're going alone. This area is really run down with the houses and really dirty in general. The schools are really bad too. I had applied to their highschool because it looked good on the brochure and as an honor student, they even urged me to go elsewhere. There is a lot of crime going down there and a lot of theft. The restaurants are nice I guess, but they sure aren't worth living here for.
Great for
- Cheap rent
- Nice restaurants
Not great for
- Bad schools
- Dirty
- High Crime
"The Perfect Place"
Great schools, great houses, great parks, great everything! There's a few gyms on the outskirts of the area and there's a park for good exercise too. There are many plazas and the food places, while not super fancy or magical, are great to experience.
Great for
- Clean and quiet
- Great for kids
- Largely residential
- Great schools
Not great for
- Need a car to get places

"Mayfair, going from okay to downhill"
Mayfair used to be a better neighborhood, but it's slowly going downhill. It's not just the fact that everything is getting more rundown. I wouldn't say this place is safe for families raising kids because of two things 1) crime and 2) bad people moving in. If you have a family, this is not the place for you. Your kids will most likely fall in with the wrong crowd since the schools around there are not the greatest. Not only are the schools not too good, but the streets are just getting dirty between the trash and the noise pollution, it's not a place that you would want to wheel around a stroller in. I was practicing my guitar with a friend in his backyard in Mayfair and someone passed by and dumped the trashy contents of their bag into his backyard since it was on the corner, but with a high fence. Thinking it was a one time thing, we went on. Ten minutes later someone else tossed the rest of their fast food over the fence. People here don't understand respect and this was during the day time too.
Great for
- Music shop nearby
- Lots of restaurants
- Pennypack Park
Not great for
- Dirty streets
- Crime on the rise
- Some houses are in bad shape

You are absolutely right, and it seems to just keep getting worse and not better.
