"Close to transport"

Lived at the rear of 3 units for 3 years. Pros: close to transport and shops. Cons: busy traffic especially peak times hard to get in or out of your driveway. Noisy trains, train maintenance & roadworks for the north east link. Some undesirables around evenings & living in a unit means your letter box is not easily seen & neighbours all told to use a padlock & get everything emailed, as you see people checking out letterboxes every day. Lots of older properties & rents now too high for the are

"Not what it used to be."

I lived in Lidcombe for 40 years and moved to Melbourne in 2000. I used to come back regularly until 2010 when Mum passed. I went back for the first time in January and was absolutely gob smacked by what's happened. So much traffic apartment's everywhere and more under construction. Very little in the way of road upgrades and I cannot believe how much stuff is just dumped in front of the older units near the shopping centre. Dooley's has grown if you don't like Korean food you could be stu

"Nice & peaceful"

Only moved here 2 months ago, but very happy with our choice. Very quiet and friendly in our area. Train station and service very reliable. 25 minutes on the train to work beats spending an hour in the car and paying for parking. Shopping is okay, mostly cafes and take away, sad to say no bakery. However it's not far to travel to Watsonia which on the whole has a much better local shopping centre. Downside is the house prices both for sale and rental.

"Getting busier by the day"

We have lived here for four years and during that time the number of nice old homes being torn down and replaced by generic looking McMansions or blocks of townhouses has sadly grown by the day. Apart from tradies & noise everywhere, it has also caused rapid increase in the amount of neighbourhood traffic and the number of cars parked on the road, to the extent that sometimes you can only get one car through at a time, especially around the corner on Dorking road and streets leading to Kerrimuir shops. We have noticed a large increase in the amount of people using our street from Middleborough road to access Dorking road and during school pick up & drops off times it's very busy

"Losing it's lustre"

We have lived here for four years and during that time the number of nice old homes being torn down and replaced by generic looking McMansions or blocks of townhouses has sadly grown by the day. Apart from tradies & noise everywhere, it has also caused rapid increase in the amount of neighbourhood traffic and the number of cars parked on the road, to the extent that sometimes you can only get one car through at a time. Whitehorse council doesn't care & is happy to let developers turn Box Hill along with Box Hill North into Melbourne's second CBD. They sell off public car parks near the train & tram interchange so you will pay at least $10 if you are lucky enough to find a parking space.
The tram service is handy but if the trains are stuffed it is like riding in a sardine can. Travelling in the morning on a good day to work leaving at 7.05am takes about 50 minutes to the city, coming home is a lottery anywhere between 45 mins - 1& 1/2 hrs, and you can get quite a few undesirables along the way. Train is quicker but packed especially on the way home, but frequently gets delayed. My friend travels from South Morang leaves at 6.55 same time as me and gets into the office at the same time as me and her options for buying or rental are much cheaper and more modern.
Gone are the old friendly Aussie & Greeks in the area rapidly replaced by Asians, I have nothing against them, some are lovely but most don't speak a word of English and are just too wrapped up in their iphones to look up & say hello.
Thankfully the ridiculous prices from a couple of years ago ($1 mill for a 3 bed 60's home?) have gone, our neighbour is selling and now only expecting around $850,000 at least some of the children of Box Hill North maybe able to afford to buy here, if prices keep dropping and the rates don't go up too much higher.
Rentals are far too pricey, especially for an old neglected house at $450 per week, Box Hill High isn't that good. I wouldn't walk around at night as the streets are quite dark I wouldn't feel safe as the demographic is changing.
Crime wise fairly safe however two houses across & a few doors down the street were robbed in the same night late last year and a neighbour around the corner had his garage broken into trying to get to his fancy Holden ute just a few weeks ago, so things are changing and we, along with a few other neighbours will be moving out over the next 12 months.

Hi, I have lived in Box Hill North for 2 years and wanted to say that I bought an old house and am NOT tearing it down, in fact I am renovating it in tune with its old character. Our neighbours 3 houses down same street also bought 6 months before us and are also NOT tearing their house down. I moved here because I love the urban feel and the fantastic transport links. I take the train to the city every day and it takes me 25-30 minutes on the limited express (they run every few minutes until mid morning) - this is at after 8am which is peak. I am in the office by 9am every day. Home time usually takes a bit longer, around 45-50 minutes. In the 2 years I have lived here, it's never taken me 1 and 1/2 hours to get home, so I can't relate to your experience. From the city you have 3 train lines to pick from to get back to Box Hill, as it is a central line, and I've never experienced any major delays. My colleagues envy me as their train lines come every 30 minutes whereas Lilydale/Belgrave lines to Box Hill are every 5 minutes in peak hour.

The review sounds as though this person is hoping to deter others from living in the suburb, possibly because they're bidding for a place? I have lived in Box Hill North for over 20 years. I went to Kerrimuir Primary School as a child and I can hand on heart say that it's just getting better as a place to live.

I think this post is quite on the money but I challenge them to find a suburb where this is not happening! I personally love living here, the community is fantastic and inclusive (just check out the Box Hill North Community and surrounds Facebook page for examples). We do have a lot of hidden gems (Shops, cafes, walking tracks) and have easy access to a lot amenities (Doncaster shopping town, box hill, quick 15 mins to city via freeway) while remaining untouched by the hustle and bustle. Its leafy and green, and while a lot of old houses are being torn down, there are a lot of houses having their character retained as well. I live that Ive brought up a family here, Box Hill North is awesome!
