Mullaloo

"My dream came true."

15 years ago when I immigrated to Australia I had a dream to buy a beach house. Finally my dream came true! I can’t believe how lucky we are to buy our house in Mullaloo. Beautiful beaches, amazing sunsets, surrounded by natural dunes, excellent neighbors, and a fantastic community. There are so many activities for the kids and the weather is fantastic most of the time.

Unfortunately Mullaloo also attracts a lot of hoon drivers that don’t seem to appreciate the wonderfulness of our suburb, but we shall not let them to spoil it for us !! (and hopefully one day our politicians will start to do something in that regard).

"Perfect!"

After great effort we finally found a green, peaceful and quiet place to rise our family. We bought a few months ago our house and we are deeply in love in this place. I think that one of the advantages is the is distance between the houses (property size of more than 1000 SQM) and people dont make noise and are very polite. There are a lot of young families and people are very nice to each other.

Great for

  • Peace and quiet
  • Fresh air
  • Beautiful streets and houses
  • Great schools

Not great for

  • Limited car parking near the train station

Abercrombie Street

"a regrettable mistake"

True story: we are a young family moved in to abercrombie street to what seemed to be a beautiful terrace with top roof garden. The reality is that abercrombie street is not a place to live for unless you are a student. The street is just too busy and noisy and air quality is poor so windows must be closed. What left from the dieing garden was not worth a visit. I just paid 4000$ to break lease to pay the difference between 630$ and a significant lower price per week just so I can move out (btw be careful what you sign with some of the properties agencies such as bell and insist to have breaking lease option in the contract otherwise you are trapped really strong and will have to pay a lot like me...

Great for

  • Close to university
  • Good transportation
  • Close to bars

Not great for

  • Too busy and noisy
  • Drunk people during night time
  • Students are partying till very late

Altona

"Great potential"

We moved few years ago to Altona, and we rent a nice house with beautiful backyard in very affordable price. The advantages: Altona`s good people, the excellent and highly recommended daycare, the beautiful pier, plenty of space, and it is not too far from the city.
However, there are few issues:
1. Factories. Cherry Lake is also close to the factories. Not the best view....However, the direction of air from the sea takes all pollution to the other side, so it doesn't really get to Altona. Altona is crossed by a train line, and generally, the pollution doesn't get to the side close to sea, and air is fresh all the time (although some sea weeds can be smelly sometime). But also, it is much more expansive.
2. Hoon drivers. But less and less with time. (4 years ago when we moved in it was much worse).
3. During summer some "messy people" come to the pier from other suburbs, they jump, smoke, push, and require some police patrol in weekends.
4. Train is currently not express, although it was used to be.

My prediction is someday the factories will be shut down and Altona will be one of the best suburbs in Melbourne. Good-luck Altona!

Great for

  • Excellent and highly recommended daycare
  • Space
  • Proximity to CBD, 3 Zone 1 Train Stations, No throughput traffic, Safe & Quiet, Low Population Density
  • Friendly residents & great community feel

Not great for

  • Train is currently not express
  • Hoons and stupid people in the beach during summer
  • Oil Refinery & Industries - but these are located fairly far away from residential areas
  • Graffiti here and there
