Wando Grove

"a good place for students, singles and couples to rent or buy their first place"

impossible to park, some flatblocks provide parking for their owners/renters but people from other suburbs sometimes block them in. A good street for investors, no matter what condition the flat/home is in. Close to Dandenong Road where buses and trams drive through, Wando Grove can be a bit dark at nighttime, plenty of pets to pat on your way home, if you like that sort of thing! Around the corner is Orrong Road which has medical faciitlies and a mini shopping mall. This area is cheaper and still close to Prahran/St Kilda. Some flat blocks look cluttered, and a bit run down but don't let that put you off. Students will be able to drive easily to Universities from there, or better still, catch public transport where they want to go! Malvern shopping centre is also close by in a car and is a good shopping area for cheapies because it is a richer area, anyone that shops there benefits from the sales and giveaways(supermarket)

Smith Street

"excellent for singles, parking a breeze...sshh!"

a one-way street just down from acland street and Luna Park...it has excellent transport coming via Elsternwick right through to the city/or the bundoora universities. Just buy a small bedsit there, you'll never look back and they so easily rent out. nightlife closes down early but the area is close to prahran where there is all night activities! St kilda has a weekend market and Smith street seems to be near everything, including their own botanical gardens, without being on main streets. Acland street has the best filafel balls ever and a great gourmet fish and chip shop...never mind the cakes! Some drug addicts leave their needles in the surrounding streets, but many flat blocks have installed blue lights in their parking areas. Vibrant, busy, exciting, easy living for the young or young at heart!

Holden Ave

"an excellent place to live for families, quiet for singles"

you do need to drive to the centre of geelong for retail therapy, but there is a local newsagency/postoffice outlet and takeaways food shops and mini supermarket along Melbourne Road. The area has its own railway and some buses that go to the city but which do not connect to West Geelong, another shopping precinct. Holden Avenue has a lovely park - St Helen's with beach area, toilets can be locked at times. This park is well-maintained. It would be the perfect street except for a new resident who bought a property/s with A,B,C attached to their street number, although this has been common practise for how long??? - they find this offensive and have gone to the council to make EVERYONE ELSE in the street who has lived there for years change their street numbers - this will be settled in their favour according to the council after Xmas. Residents don't know whether they can fight this unhappy situation as some are adamant they refuse to let go of their street number and one has proudly painted theirs on the brick fence (you go girl!). Aside from this, property values have increased so of course some rates have gone up 50-100%, but you get what you pay for and that's why sydneysiders have started moving to Geelong, with our own shuttle bus from Avalon airport - domestic flights, soon to go international!!!

Ward Avenue

"appeals to singles; very noisy and you have to dodge drug addicts/drunks/aggressive men!"

it is a grotty street, with drunks sleeping in flat block doorways, urinating in doorways, banging on groundfloor windows/doors. public who visit the clubs/pubs in the area have no respect for residents, yelling and having domestics all night in the street. Taxis beep their horns continuously coming down roslyn street and many taxi drivers refuse to return residents right into kings cross next to ward ave because they're worried about their next fare. Surrounding streets are violent and drug addicts 'trip' in the street while everyone walks over and around them, while trying to avoid the beggars continuously asking for money (for free??)
It is close to the city, has excellent transport and has more visitors in the area than locals as many have sold up and left. The council don't care about landsites and will allow developers to build next to you. Like alot of sydney it is hard to find a toilet in the area even when you go to cafes/restaurants.

Hi FiFi. This is a very helpful review. A friend of mine was looking for places in the Eliz Bay area and i told him to check this review out. He's _very_ glad he did!

It might be tough - but that's how some streets are. Thanks heaps from myself and him.

Would it be okay to walk at evening on the street ?
