"Nice but slow pace of life"

Avoid anywhere close to Ritchie St (Housing commission area). Walking to the beach and getting a coffee was the best part. Close to the airport and 30 mins by car to cbd. Unfortunately, the area is turning into duplex city. Lots of hoons of a night. Small Coles but there is one at Brighton or you could shop at Southgate and Miranda. You easily get in the habit of not leaving the area and we are still relatively young. So much better for retirement and a quieter pace of living.

We recently moved to Ritchie St and the housos are lovely, offering to help move furniture, invited us over for tea and enjoy a chat. At the bottom of the street are one of the ponds, with various water birds, fish and an eel. In the vacant lot, theres sometimes a horse that likes to greet you when passing by. All of this adds a bit of magic to our lives

Rockdale

"Just like living in the western suburbs"

The best parts about the area is the transport into the city. It’s also close to Brighton Le Sands. Avoid Rockdale Plaza around lunch time as very difficult to get out of the car park. The shops in the Main Street and train station are run down. It’s a dive to be honest with you. Very hard to find an Aussie takeaway and only so many kebabs I can eat. It’s under a flight path, so loads of planes. Houses are cheap for a reason. Tons of flats. I really regret moving here and plan to move as fast as I can. Cannot recommend unless you love the southwest/ western Sydney vibe.

Wow hard to find Aussie take away. I wonder if you really know what that is. Sounds like you should go live in Hay.

Responding to run down vibe , some of our small business owners went under during Covid , the recovery will resuscitate some of this.

true there are some lower income pockets of apartments, but its a big suburb with areas of larger, higher income family homes and nice family amenities if youre at that stage of life.

Living in Rockdale is nothing like living in the western suburbs...it's close to a wonderful Lady Robinson's beach and 20km cycle way along Botany Bay. It has proximity to Sydney CBD, nightlife in Newtown, IKEA/Decathlon nearby. Rockdale is not on a flight path for the main two runways (used most frequently) at Sydney Airport 16R and 16L ...that is an approach or takeoffs over Marrickville Sydenham and Wolli Creek. Rockdale is however on flight path of runway 07 which is a cross wind runway used rarely and less than 20% of Sydney airport annua aircraft l movements would ever overfly that area... Yet people seem hellbent on raising flighpath as an issue to try to dissuade others or to lower the $ value of the suburb. Ultimately those noise claims are not the whole truth... I was getting far worse and constant flight path noise at Ashfield way more so than in Rockdale and other friends in Newtown are getting way more aircraft over their homes than in Rockdale . Other than this ...Rockdale offers spacious luxury quality apartments at attractive $$$prices , quiet leafy areas and parks. Good access to public transport. Rockdale is an underrated sleeper suburb which should cost way more for what it has on offer... And is destined to boom soon especially once the M6 crossover tunnel stage one to Cronulla is completed soon.

Balwyn North

"Nosey neighbourhood"

The area seems nice so far. Close to everything.
Unfortunately, I have had the misfortune of moving into a very nosey street!
The day I moved in, they started coming out.... a couple of old dog walkers, going up and down several times, one walking past the house and immediately turning around again! The next door neighbour who was standing outside his car for hours on end, for two days straight to catch a look at what we were moving in the house. We also got a welcome to the neighbourhood from a business, as soon as they were aware of something we moved in a couple days later - specific related. Very creepy!
Very nice high end houses but next door looks like a couple on Centrelink and perhaps pot. Their house looks old and run down, so the street has obviously improved over the years in terms of houses.
Obviously I picked the wrong street in this neighbourhood! Unless everyone in Balwyn North doesn’t have a life? Lol
