Helensvale

"Well connected"

I moved from Sydney to Helensvale 5 years ago and haven't looked back. I couldn't afford a house in Sydney so was amazed at the affordability and excellent amenities. Westfield, Helensvale Library, train and light rail stations are easily accessible and make it easy to get to Brissy for work or the beach.
The only down side are the limited decent cafes and restaurants however that has improved over the past 5 years so I'm hopeful this will continue.

Not in the time I've been here. Before making the decision I checked the flood maps with council, you can find them online.

Hi and thanks for your review.
How long does it take to get to Broadbeach on the light rail from helensvale?
Do you think the new Coomera link will be good or bad helensvale residents?

@steveg21 It takes about 40 mins from helensvale to Broadbeach by lightrail as there are quite a few stops along the way (Griffith Uni, GC University Hospital, Main Beach, Surfers Paradise etc). In terms of whether the Coomera connector will be good/bad for Helensvale residents is subjective. I personally think it will be good as it provides another way to travel aside for the M1 which gets busy during peak times and makes Helensvale even more connected with both other parts of the GC and Brisbane. Residents who have built homes in the Surrounds (large housing estate in Helensvale) may be negatively affected as the Coomera Connector runs right past the estate so I can imagine it would increase noise.

Hi @janal2, We live in a Sydney suburb. How do you compare people and the communities with the Sydney ones? And if you have kids going school, are you happy with the Helensvale state school ? Also do you commute to Brissy by train everyday? If so how does it feel?
Cheers

Hi @saravanmadan, discovery drive is the main road that runs through Helensvale from the gold coast highway. It's just a 2 lane Rd though, so not massive. Still relatively quiet. The homes are a bit older too, the original from when the suburb was built. I'm thinking those two factors may make it a bit more reasonably priced. Depending on which end of discovery drive you would either be really close to Helensvale plaza (shops) and library. This is also close to Westfield. The other end of discovery drive is close to Helensvale High school. Hope that helps.

Discovery Drive is extremely busy at peak hours, and is going to get busier as they intend to build more houses at Helensvale Plaza and behind Westfield. So long as you never have to drive at peak times, it's fine.
