Anduramba

"Where people go to be forgotten"

Anduramba is arguably split into two - Upper and Lower. The upper part is closer to the nearest town of Crows Nest, while lower Anduramba is down the hill with a significant travel time to town since the permanent closure of Anduramba Range Road after significant flooding in 2011/13.

We lived on a 100 acre property that was extremely peaceful and completely off grid (Anduramba has limited grid electricity and no reticulated water or sewer networks). Biggest issue we had was the significant commute time into Toowoomba for work (just under an hour each way)

Fixed wireless NBN if you're lucky otherwise satellite internet - not great for professionals working from home. The area is prone to significant bushfire risk so keep an eye and ear out in times of emergency. Some very interesting characters off the beaten track who are lovely people, often with a life story to tell living in quite crude accommodation. Crime is rarely an issue, with any issues being largely petty theft.

Kingsthorpe

"Quiet and peaceful"

My wife and I have just moved from Kingsthorpe after several years (purchased in Toowoomba). After moving from Anduramba we were expecting a return to noisy suburbia but couldn't be further from the truth. Most properties are on half acre blocks with some at the top end of Petersens Road or Linton Hill on 1-1.5 acres. This helps with noise. During our tenancy, Kingsthorpe grew significantly as a satellite suburb and "bedroom community" of Toowoomba. My wife works in Glenvale and I work in Toowoomba City - the dramatic reduction in commute time alone was a big incentive for us to move.

Kingsthorpe now has a small shopping centre, featuring an IGA, bottle shop, pharmacy, doctor and dentist. Fibre to the Node NBN in most parts of town. 10 minutes to Oakey and 20-25 to Toowoomba. Never personally had an issue with crime but others were having issues with petty theft in later years. Reason for moving? Landlords sold our property and we were in the position to buy elsewhere.

Jennings Street

"Hidden Gem!"

My wife and I have just bought a property from a family member who had lived in the street since 1948. Quiet location (even quieter since the Toowoomba bypass was constructed), a block from a good ALH hotel and Uncle Dan (Dan Murphy's for the uninitiated). Never had a crime issue in 72 years. Adjacent to the Geddes Street character precinct, and a 10 minute walk to my work in Toowoomba City. Close to Lake Annand and great restaurants. Suits this 30 something childless couple perfectly.
