Clear Island Waters

"Tropical paradise - but close to everything"

We have been living in Clear Island Waters for just over 12 months now and love it. It is quiet and peaceful and yet so close to shops like the Q Supercentre, Pacific Fair and even Robina Town Centre is not that far (13 mins). It's also close to the M1 for trips to Brisbane or Byron Bay. Great coffee shop nearby (Goji) and fabulous hairdresser (The Rooms). I especially love all the palm trees that make me feel like I'm in a tropical paradise. Bird life on the lake is plentiful. We don't have any experience with loud boats - in fact there is very little boating on the lake where we are. Zero sightings of jet skis. Neighbours are super quiet which is what we love and there are lots of people walking the streets for exercise or walking their dogs of an early evening. I would be happy to live here forever.

hi judym10, we are thinking the same love the look of clear island waters, bit concerned of people talking about the midges how bad they are expecially near the water and also snakes have you come across any of these. How are you finding the humidity, where from Melbourne.... regards kathyb

Hi Kathy, we are on the water and have not experienced any midges here at all, and it's been over 12 months now. I'm no expert but I think it's because we have a fresh water (not sea water) frontage. It also means lots more bird life which makes it really interesting. Definitely ask about midges when looking for your house (rent or buy) as I know it can drive people a bit mad. No snakes - thank goodness!!! we had snakes in our previous place because we lived on acreage and I am so pleased they're not a part of my life now. If you're coming from Melbourne, anywhere in south east Queensland will be very humid for you in Jan and Feb. I grew up in the area and the tricks for dealing with this are 1. orientation - always look for north east orientation for living areas; 2. insulation at least in ceiling (if I was building from scratch I'd put it everywhere); 3. ceiling fans are great, and if you must 4. air conditioning. That said, I broke my own rule and bought a house facing north west because of the amazing northern light that comes into the house and because the sunsets take my breath away each day. We manage the afternoon heat with block out blinds. Also coming from down south you might not realise the importance of screens for windows and doors - allows you to open up and still keep out flies. Cheers, Judy
