I have lived here for over 2 years now. The main thing I was looking for was peace and quiet, and natural outlook and walks. I live on a culdesac across from natural preserve. It is so quiet and there are loads of birds, as well as water dragons and occasionally a lace monitor. Love the curlews. The local shopping centres have most of what you will need, and Capalaba or Logan have the rest. Good variety of cafes and restaurants. Lots of retirees who keep their yards immaculate and don't make noise :). In fact, in all the areas I have walked or driven around, most yards are kept very tidy.
If you work in the city, the commute would be horrid. I don't.
Almost always a sea breeze on hot summer days. Coochiemudlo island is a quick 50c ferry ride. The waterside walks are pleasant and there are forest walks and a great cycleway as well.
Locals are friendly. It is a more relaxed pace of life, which is what I wanted. Straddie is easy to get to if you really want an ocean beach experience.
It feels very safe. I am sure there are pockets that are different, but from my experience, I have never felt unsafe once in over 2 years.
Rates are on the expensive side.

We have lived in Sandhurst for about 18 months. We are a professional couple with no kids. We love it. It is quiet. There are extensive walking/bike paths and lots of people using them. I walk every day on them. People are very friendly and there is good community spirit. Because it is a club estate there are fees which include gardening for all the public green areas which are beautifully kept. And of course the golf courses are lovely to look at even if you dont play. Shopping centres are nearby and it is close to freeways.
The club also provides gym, pool and tennis courts as well as cafe and restaurant and members bar. Fees also cover 24 hr security and all houses on the estate have monitored security systems.
There is a bus stop at the entry to the estate. Mornington peninsula is nearby for weekend drives.
