Aspendale

"Beach feel with everything at your doorstep"

We moved from the inner north 4 months ago and don't regret it for a second. We were looking to buy further north, however decided to look at a place a bit further down the coast. After we drove through Mordialloc we were struck by the relaxed coastal feel of the area, and didn't look back from there. Compared to our old suburb where we were broken into twice in a year, Aspendale couldn't be better. It feels safe, people walk around here after dark, there is always a friendly greeting. Everywhere in the suburb is a short walk to the station and an easy/regular train into the city. The beach is 200m away and we can't wait till summer to walk to the water. Within a 5 minute walk we have a dr, 2 dentist, childcare, bakery, newsagent, post office, cafes, mexican, schools, sports facilities (tennis/football/golf). Southlands, DFO, Bunnings are all a 10 min drive, Mordialloc has a great range of restaurants and is only 5 mins drive, a 20min walk or one train station. The traffic on the main road can be a little busy, but given that we live on the main road and stopped noticing it after a week it isn't a huge issue. There are always plenty of cyclists enjoying the area and people seem to be getting out and living an outdoor lifestyle.

Bellfield

"Prices still low for inner city."

I didn't know Melbourne at all when I bought while interstate, just saw a house on the internet on a whim. Bellfield while looking a little on the down side had improved remarkably in the past 12 months, but prices are still low. Its close to the airport, close to Ivanhoe shopping and Northlands shopping centre. Sporting fields and the creek is a lovely walk. I can't believe how close it is to the city (still zone 1 on the trains). No one has heard of Bellfield but her it sits in the middle of everything. Melbournes best kept secret I think!

The neighbours are friendly, people are always happy for a chat when out walking and the traffic from Bell st is surprisingly undisturbing.
