Coogee

"Good but not great"

The beach is obviously the big thing here. That, along with the variety of cafes and restaurants in the area mean there's lots of options to keep you entertained.
But there are a few factors that let Coogee down;
- despite the huge range of options, none of restaurants are fantastic. Most of them are decent, but none are good enough to get excited about.
- lack of good bars. You either have the Pav, which is just about the most pretentious place on earth, or the CBH which is basically just there for anyone how couldn't get into the Pav that night. The Diggers is probably the best of the bunch, and that's kind of underwhelming. The wine bar is extortionately expensive.
- the neighbourhood doesn't have much of a sense of community. 75% of the population is young people on working holiday visas with high turn-over rates, and the few true "locals" really stick to themselves, and seem to resent the presence of the former.
- the commute is really bad. Despite being only 8km from the CBD, it takes up to an hour to get to the city in the morning if you catch the bus even a minute after 8am. The light rail does not speed the journey up at all.
