Richmond

"Fun and funky, great place to live!"

Close to everything!!! Couldn't be better for public transport!! A busy & bustling area suitable for young professionals and students.

I love all the restaurants and cafes in the area. You don't have to go far for a good coffee or a fun night out! Bridge Road is great for shopping.

Close to the botanic gardens and all of Melbourne's sporting venues. The best place to live if you like the footy!

However you won't enjoy living here if you want peace and quiet as it's always busy and noisy, and the people who live in Richmond aren't very friendly. It's quite trendy and pretentious. Take care around the streets and bars at night.

Forest Hill

"A dull and awful suburb hemmed in by busy grid roads"

I really can't think of anything good to say about this suburb. It is the typical dull and drab "suburbia" as portrayed in the TV series Kath and Kim! A completely lifeless and boring area to live.

I believe the 5-star reviews posted on this site are from Real Estate agents, not from anyone who has actually lived here!

You need a car to get around because the public transport is hopeless in this area. Springvale road is a nightmare. There are no nice cafes, bars or restaurants.

The only pros I can think of are the Neighbours tours in nearby Pin Oak court.

Great for

  • Neighbours tours nearby

Not great for

  • Extremely dull
  • Poor public transport
  • Busy roads

Who lives here?

  • Families with kids
  • Retirees

(I'm a local, not an agent. )There are plenty of Restaurants and cafes that are great, in the shopping Centre, at Brendford square and other places too like the highly rated Persian flavours, and awesome coffee from the Jolimont. It has literally got everything, community gardens, schools, shopping centre, endota spa, pools, chemist, post office, and so so many other hand things. I believe Springvale road is great as it easily connects you with other suburbs, and has good bus routes too. What side of Forest Hill are you on?

Surrey Hills

"A quiet, leafy but boring suburb suitable for the elderly/families - possums outnumber people!"

Very quiet and peaceful area, good for the elderly and for families as there are lots of schools nearby.
The tree lined streets are well maintained and there are many gorgeous houses, it's a lovely area to walk around! The traffic isn't too bad - except at peak hour when the railway crossings at Mont Albert road and Union road get very blocked.

Public transport is good if you live near one of the train stations/tram lines. However the pocket of Surrey Hills near canterbury rd/elgar rd is very poorly serviced.

I wouldn't recommend living here if you want to have fun, as there is nothing to do here. It's in a dry area also (the residents like it this way) so there are no bars or pubs.

The suburb is overrun with possums, I had many sleepless nights when these creatures took up residence inside the roof of my house. This is a real problem in Surrey Hills!

  • Leafy

Not great for

  • Boring
  • No bars
  • Possums
