Seaford

"Crime isn't the only shortfall"

Having recently moved from Hobart to Melbourne, I have been renting an apartment for past 11-months my home has been broken into twice and my car once. From what the police tell me it was likely junkies trying for a quick grab of goods before selling them for quick cash.

My home is secure and has a large gate at the front . . . but nothing seems to deter these criminals. Likely coming in from neighboring high crime suburbs like Frankston North.

And as for eating out and shopping - you need to head into the city if you want to avoid the low end rubbish being sold locally. Never had a decent local coffee (have tried multiple locations).

Not great for

  • High Crime Rate
  • No decent restaurants
  • No decent cafes
  • A few ferals still around

sounds like you have run into so bad luck, ive lived her for the past 2 years and never found crime to be a problem.. i havent even noticed it.. you must live on the bad side of seaford.. you can say seaford is bad when you have such an amazing beach.. there are plently of places to get a good coffee and most with a great view of the water.. very disspointing that you have rated it so low when you have by the sounds of things been singled out and targeted by crime.. i think you should reconsider your rating...

That do sound very scary! We are planning to move from Sydney to Melbourne. Looking at the affordability, transport and beaches Seaford area seems to be the place to go. But, given your experience it is making us thing again. It sounds like you had been targeted.

Where in Seaford do you live? I'm looking at buying but not keen on high crime! Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I have lived in Seaford for 4 years and all I can say is, don't listen to all the crime garbage you hear, crime is everywhere! It is naive to just go off a negative comment. I have found some parts are excellent and some bits have had issues. We (my family) have had no problems and I in this time have got to know half the neighbourhood. Where else can you buy a house on the S.E. coast of the bay in Melbourne for under $400-500K!!! We are 2kms back from the beach where we are, have excellent highways, are a short trip from the beautiful country, surrounded by high end suburbs,45mins from the CBD, have a great and improved infrastructure of Frankston and spoiled for choice with schools within walking distance!
I can think of at least 30 homes I have seen around our area that have been renovated since we moved here and all of which have large kid friendly blocks!!! Please come down and/or do your proper research! Find go off what old negative no hope locals say!! It's a under rated beachside suburb.

'Don't go off what old negative no hope attitude locals say!!! We have substantial equity in the time we moved here. No other costal properties are selling for the prices these ones are, but it's not long before they might just get out of your reach.

We are looking around Jubilee Avenue for a rental. Would be interested in hearing opinions on this area. Or advice on what better areas there are? Must be able to walk to train station. Up to 20 minutes is fine

I live in Seaford for 12 years and I never experienced any trouble. For me it's the best place to live and I wouldn't live anywhere else. Beautiful beaches, clean water. Lot of options for walk around the Kananook creek.

Lots of mixed reviews here! We are planning to buy a home in Seaford near East Seaford Reserve? Does this fall under the shady area of Seaford? Would be grateful to get any advise!!

I have lived in Seaford twice once near the wet lands and again by the Frankston north end there is definitely a side you want to live on and thats beach side near the wetlands much nicer then the scum Frankston north end were I walked out of my property the other day to have a junkie aggressively try and fight me while I was just walking to my car. I find this area to be Bad and Im from the rough side of Whanganui NZ so if I find its bad its bad, Can not wait to move away!
