Muchea

"Lovely rural township close to Perth metro area"

Muchea is known as a 'horse town', it seems nearly everyone in Muchea has horse/s and is a horse fanatic. Beautiful housing on large blocks of land, people tend to really take pride in their gardens. Quiet, safe, friendly neighbours. The Muchea Roadhouse not only gives excellent customer service but also provides nearly everything you may need - fuel, gas bottles, mail/post services, food, toiletries, magazines, firewood.. as well as basic necessities for horses etc. Only a 20 min drive to Bullsbrook for more shopping options, and only 40 min drive to Joondalup (metro area) for a major shopping centre with connecting Transperth train station.

Great for

  • Beautiful housing, large blocks of land, good value
  • Muchea Roadhouse has excellent services
  • Friendly and quiet neighbours

Not great for

  • Sometimes train noise
  • Have to be very careful and alert during bushfire season
  • Proximity to shopping/services

Bayview Crescent

"Our neighbours are the Australian wildlife."

Most houses on Bayview Crescent have no back fence, so basically, the national park to the rear of the property becomes part of your back yard. We have wildlife such as Kangaroos, Wallabies, and of course Possums visiting our back garden on a regular basis. Neighbours are generally friendly and considerate, with only the occasional party. Quiet and peaceful, safe and secure. Feels like it is rural.

Great for

  • No back fence means visits from Aussie native wildlife
  • Backs onto national park
  • Beautiful views

Not great for

  • Narrow road in areas, residents can park inconveniently on road

The Basin

"Beautiful little Melbourne suburb"

Been living here for nearly two years now, and can honestly say that it is one of the best places I've ever lived. Quiet, safe, peaceful, picturesque with the national park to the rear, close to public transport (either bus or Boronia train station) and shopping (including a Kmart open til midnight close by at Boronia.. and just a 10 min drive to Knox City and Eastland Shopping Centres). Never had a problem with security, only the occasional party that is usually wrapped up by midnight. Plenty of access to medical facilities as well as schools.

Great for

  • Beautiful views, close to national park
  • Quiet and safe
  • Close to shopping, schools, transport

Not great for

  • Some streets are narrow and residents can park inconveniently

Subiaco

"Safe and clean"

Clean and safe, lived there for 4 years without any security issues. People are quiet (except for the odd party) and generally keep to themselves most of the time. Council is decent, as soon as a complaint is made about something, they are on it straight away. So close to the city, but generally such a peaceful area with beautiful housing.
The only cons I have are to do with the nightlife and certain bars/clubs potentially over-serving patrons - so many times I have driven down Hay St on a Saturday night and have had to swerve around drunken men and women literally throwing themselves into traffic, usually trying to wave down a taxi (and we know how difficult taxis are to come by in Perth after dark), but sometimes they just do it for a laugh. So for this reason, I recommend taking Bagot Rd instead of Hay St on Saturday nights.
Another disruption is the Subi Oval. The football itself isn't the problem, it's the traffic it causes, as well as the parking issues at local shopping centres.
So - living in Subi is tops... you just have to have a bit of patience with the 'attractions'... the positive definitely outweighs the negative.

Great for

  • Picturesque housing and gardens
  • Clean and safe streets
  • Friendly and quiet neighbours
  • Great choice of restaurants and bars
  • Relaxing - doesn't feel like you're right next to the city
  • Saves you huge amounts of time & money when travelling to/from work
  • Short walk to shops/dinner/transport

Not great for

  • Traffic from AFL
  • Drunk people on Hay St & Rokeby Rd on Fri/Sat nights
  • Concert noise
  • Nowhere to park for visitors
  • Prices are severely over-valued
  • Roads are small/narrow
  • Traffic generally slow on Loftus & north end of Rokeby at peak hour
