Albert Rd

"Good place to run, bike"

Lakeside Drive is one of those rare streets which mostly just runs through a park - Albert Park being one of the biggest ones in the city, it's an excellent place for runners and cyclists, motor traffic is kept to a slow pace and it runs right along the edge of Albert Lake. There's only a couple of buildings on it, one of them being a small office building with a nice cafe in the bottom. At the south end of the street are some tennis courts, definitely a great place for a nice day out.

Ingles St

"Plenty of interesting attractions"

Ingles Street runs the border basically between Port Melbourne and South Melbourne, and in it's north section (near W. Gate Freeway), it's home to some very interesting shops. One place not to miss is the "Crystal Universe" which has not only some incredible thunder-eggs and amethysts but also some very rare and interesting fossils. Theres a few fashion shops in the same area, as well as a Jaguar dealership and the Academy of Design (with it's gallery).

Queens Rd

"High End Luxury Apartments and Hotels"

Queens Road runs through some of the most senic sections of downtown Melbourne, going through Albert Park and turning into Queens Way (the busy thoroughfare) at it's end. It's mostly full of the same thing throughout; very fancy, well kept and beautiful luxury condominiums and apartments, with a few nice mansions to fill the gaps. It's not a place that most people would find themselves staying at while on holiday unless they're lucky enough to get a good rate, in which case I'd highly recommend it.

"Good place for nightlife, not much of a beach"

St Kidla used to be home to a lot of 'sex industry' (prostitution and strip joints) but has been made into more of a 'normal' place for nightlife. During day or night Luna Park is a great place to go with a nice view of the harbour, the street life with performers and kiosks is much more of an attraction than the beach which isn't so great for swimming for sunning as compared to other beaches around town. There are a few nice pubs and some happening night clubs like Subculture.

Little La Trobe Street

"Central location but not much going on"

La Trobe Street is mostly a street you would use getting from one place to another, not exactly a destination in itself. There is a multi-level corner mall type place in one section but it has many vacant storefronts and just your basic sundries shop, etc. Family court is on this street which makes for kind of a weird vibe, lots of legal types and people in not exactly festive moods.

"Beautiful views by the city's largest parks"

Wellington Parade is a large street going from downtown Melbourne to East Melbourne and runs directly past one of the city's largest parks; Fitzroy Gardens, as well as Treasury Gardens, Wellington Park, and the Cricket Grounds. It's a wide tree-lined street that runs next to the train tracks, but you'd never know it because they laid it out very well - it's not noisy. I've noticed a few swank looking hotels along it as well as some fantastic art-deco apartment buildings, and historic homes and buildings.

Flinders St

"Great place for a stroll"

Flinders street runs along the north bank of the Yarra River and offers some lovely views of places such as Batman Park. It's many people's first look at Melbourne as they arrive at the railway station there. Many historic buildings are in this part of town such as St. Paul's Cathedral and the Forum Theater. It's a very welcoming vibe as there are many small shops and cafes that cater to tourists as well as everyone working downtown (a favourite lunch place). If you're visiting don't miss the Aquarium, also on Flinders.

Bourke St

"Bourke Street is good for shoppers"

Bourke Street, being home to the Bourke Street Mall and several other shopping destinations, is a great place for all kinds of shopping. It's in a fairly central location, the main noteworthy part being between Queen and Exhibition streets. Bourke runs through Chinatown and there (near Exhibition) you can find lots of Asian foods and oriental goods.

"Historic section of downtown"

Collins street is the home of many centuries old original churches and theaters, and everything from large businesses to open markets. There's also a lot of beauty shops including Elly Lukas where you can get discounted rates on services performed by students

Swanston Street

"Nice place to stay, live, see art"

Swanton street is home to a number of nice hotels, parks, and a few nice galleries such as Skepsi. I haven't lived there myself but I know a few people who have, one friend of mine lived in the Seasons Apartments which was a nice place.
