Do we do Safety Beach?????

Need some help please from those who live in Safety Beach.

We are a mid thirty couple with 2 kids under four and looking to move to Safety Beach - not in the marina.

Is it a good area for families.? What are the schoold like? The social aspect, cafe's things to do?

Just need some info from those who live there. Anything really.... is it worth the seachange??????

I think that Safety Beach is a great place to live. My parents live in Mount Martha and we always enjoying going there with our young son. I don't know about the schools, but there are lots of families at the Mount Martha shops so I'm sure Safety Beach would be the same. There's plenty of Cafes in Mount Martha and Dromana where it merges with Safety Beach. I think the seachange is definitely worth it (although the commute would be a killer if you were going to Melbourne CBD). If you are working on the South or East of Melbourne it's ok but take into account the tolls on Eastlink.

I have lived in Safety Beach for 12 years. I can certainly say that I have not found another location that beats the advantages of being here.

I am semi retired, but my daughter and her 4 children live in Safety beach also.

We have taken them to the local childminding centre (very well run and very professional), to Dromana Primary (good reputation) and through to Dromana and Rosebud secondary schools.

I suugest you find a house in a cul-de-sac or court, so the kids can be safe in the street. The main roads can get a bit busy for kids, but the side roads are safe.

There is a house for sale (not mine) in Moonlight Mews which might be just what you are looking for.

The cafes in Dromana are excellent, the grocery shopping is as good as it is in Melbourne and parking is a breeze except for 6 weeks over Xmas when the terrorists invade for the holidays.

It is mostly flat so walking, bike riding and going to the beach are easy.

The neighbours are all friendly and most homes are occupied. Not so, further down towards Rye.

It is more than a sea change, it is a change away from "I don't care, don't talk to me" neighbours to more of a village life. The neighbours are not "in your face" but, put yourself out a little and you will get to know many of them.

I have met and still know over 50 neighbours, and 15 of those are close.

The SW winds in August and September can be cold, but as long as you have protection, things will be swell.

I must sound biased, but I moved here temporarily whilst I went into semi retirement. I then scoured the eastern coast from Vic to upper NSW and could not find a reason to move from here.

Enough said.

Go for it and enjoy.

Yes, the commute to Melbourne and the Airport is difficult, but remember where you are.

My brother, who has travelled around the world, asked me when we were on a boat off Safety Beach "So where do you go for your holidays?" His reason for asking? He believed he had found the best place for a holiday (Safety Beach) and wanted to know what the locals did that could be better. I replied, "I am on my holidays, always"
