Melbourne trains

I don't use public transport that much (I did enough of that during high school) but I must say it's a huge topic for discussion. Whenever you mention the use of trains to commuters, you hear nothing but moans and groans, so there must be something not right.

This is also another reason I don't really use public transport:

"Melbourne is one of the developed world's most car-dependent cities, and the study sheds light on why: relatively poor access to public transport because the city is so spread out, and travel times 26 per cent slower than the car."

VS

"In cities with excellent public transport systems and worse road congestion — including London, Moscow, Rome and Munich — cars are as much as 50 per cent slower than trains or buses."

How can public transport be slower than driving?

Because the government has failed to buy more rolling stock and maintain infrastructure. It's quite simple really. Now everyone is suffering and the government has realised too late what a mess it has made!

They used to be more reliable in the old days with the " red rattlers " . Now with all the technology , when the temperature gets to 35, they can't work properly, and there are cancellations ! What a joke and what an embarrassment for Victoria !
