Melbourne vs Perth

Has anyone lived in both Perth & Melbourne as I need to make an informed decision on where to emigrate to so I need views on both places.

We visited Perth in July and saw it at is worst with regards to the weather and it was very quiet everywhere - we didn't have the rose-tinted specs on in holiday-mode, which is good, but the visit made us realise that Perth seems to have very little to do in the cooler months apart from visiting Freo or Hilarys - maybe we have chosen the wrong destination to move to for our family?

If anyone here has lived in both places or at least visited both, could you tell me which city you would choose and why.

Kind regards
Kay

I grew up in Perth and while it has many things going for it it is too quiet and there are not enough events to keep you busy. Melbourne wins on social and cultural activities, better and cheaper food, and much more buzz in the city. But employment may be better in Perth... it's hard to say.

I've lived in Melbourne my whole life, and visited Perth once for about 2 weeks. My opinions may be biased, but my impression is that it is a very different to Melbourne (almost hardly comparable).

I found Perth to be very quiet, very beautiful (great beaches), very hot at times as well. It's very hard to judge though considering I was only there for such a short period of time.

What are you looking for in a place to live? Advice is very dependant on what you want in a city. Perhaps if you could give us a little more information, then we could help you a little more.

Perth is definitely too quiet, which is why people leave.
