Writing a children's book need insight (kangaroos) small towns

Hello all, I am currently writing a book and it is a story that takes place in a small town Australia. I need info on small towns that have kangaroos, possibly a brook, river. A place that a child VISITING (from Sydney perhaps) his grandparents with a familiarity of kangaroos would be passed down. Kid friendly kangaroos? Thanks .
